Hi all, can someone please give me a comprehensive list of the standard differences between a D4 SE and HSE?

Trying to narrow my search somewhat, and see what I'll have to do without etc.

Edit for clarity: I'll be buying used, looking at a 2010/11, REALLY want the e-diff.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the main thing is the bigger touch screen also bigger stereo the lights in the doors also not sure if xenon lights are standard aswell. Don't think there is much more than that. Syneigy can point you in the exact details.

Went through this excercise last year and the main differences were:
- reverse camera
- off road GPS
- xenon lights
- electric front seat with memory
- better stereo
- 7 seats with AC in the back
- SDV engine

Most SEs I saw were optioned with at least a few of these, so it came down to what you want. I really wanted a camera, AC in back and xenon. The others were a bonus when I picked a really well priced HSE (with black pack) for $93K.

Not sure if the MY14 have not changed the STD offering.

REALLY happy with mine but I am sure an SE would also have brought a smile to my face :)

Hi Will,

Are you looking for MY14 or in general, as I suspect it varied a little from year to year.

That's exactly right everything there haha and yeah I got mine for under $93 aswell so yeah push hard and you can get a good deal and make it not much price difference and the memoir seats are really worth it.

Same here.

Bought mine in November last year. Was looking for an SE with some options new or very low kms demo. By the time I specified what I wanted the HSE became an easy choice and we got extra stuff that we wouldn't have opted for included. I paid $95,000 but had short roof rails with bars and side steps so the price is close to the others. I was happy with the deal I got and ended up with a digital radio thrown in as the car the dealer quoted on which was in Qld was sold out from under them and they found one in Vic that had the DAB. They wore the cost themselves at their suggestion. I was very impressed with the whole process.

Whichever way you go you'll be happy.

I can't speak for the MY14 but I have a LR MY13 (Australia) spec sheet.

Differences between HSE and SE are stated as:

New 7 spoke alloy wheels
Rear view camera
Xenon headlights
Front park sensors
Rear A/C
Electric memory seats driver and passenger
Electric memory mirrors
Hi-Ice H&K 11 speaker sound
Premium Nav (although there is no other Sat Nav offered...LOL)

Seven seats and SDV6 are standard SE features. SE also has electric front seats, just no memory, as standard.

As other members have stated, there isn't a lot in it (I'm actually a bit dismayed by the things an HSE doesn't have as standard) and there are a lot of SE's with additions floating around. There are also a few incremental options and special 'packs' that can be added to any D4 (eg single electric seat, camera only, Sat Nav only, Tech Pack, etc). On top of that, there are still a lot of options that can be added period, that are not standard on either an HSE or SE, so I imagine there will be a few HSEs floating around that are carrying extra options on them.

Finding a car that is already optioned up is a very economical way of getting extra fruit.

Cheers,

Kev.

At 362k with no service history it's worth about $1.85 lol, so not trading it.

2010/11 model, have edited OP to add that.

Mine is a 2010 SE with the e-diff the only option. It has the 3.0 180Kw engine, the basic display screen (1st batch were optioned with sat-nav), bi-xenons, footwell and puddle lights, 7-seat leather seats. IIRC auto headlights and wipers were standard on all models.

Was Sat Nav a standard option on the first SEs? I have the same build (Xenons, H&K L7 sound system, Sat Nav, etc) and have always been suspicious that LR were purposely 'sweetening' the market on the first D4 release.

The extras on the 1st batch were not free, just mandatory options to show-off the new Disco. My order got built too early so had the extras so it was re-ordered for just the basic SE spec, plus the e-diff again. I stretched to get the 3.0 - the cost of the extras was not appreciated.

Yeah I definitely want the 3.0l, and the e-diff. Hope to be able to get xenon lights and some other goodies. Buying in a few months, doing extensive research first.

The xenons are great and the ediff is pretty good option to I've only been up a few tracks nothing major but you see both diffs working away doing there thing haha so i can only imagine its a good option!!

I'm not too concerned about having xenon high beams as I'll be running Fyrlyts. Definitely want the e-diff though. Got topix ready on the iPad to check VINs. Does the mono screen in the SE still show the diffs and axles?

Does the mono screen in the SE still show the diffs and axles? No, but what purpose does knowing serve? Its not as though one might modify their driving because of what's being shown and more likely to be a distraction until the novelty of seeing them locking and unlocking wears off. You can't see which wheels TC is braking so why know what the diffs are doing?

Yeah true, no use apart from the coolness factor

As already said no it doesn't show the diff settings or anything like that but if you option and SE with the rear view camera or xenons i think its all part of a technic package or something and you get the bigger screen anyway that shows you all of the wheel angles and diff settings.

I love the memory seats on the HSE as my wife and i drive it all the time with different settings so its just handy plus i got the electric steering column handy but not really worth the extra $1000 or whatever it was.

Mine shows front wheel angles in the instrument display but that probably occurs regardless of whether the touch screen is fitted or not.

Thanks, I'm used to no screen so some screen is going to be a big upgrade. I'll be the driver 99% of the time (wife says the D3/4 looks like a cracker box) so no need for memory seats and column. Wish the Captains chairs came in the SE though. Might have to retro fit them at some stage...

Thanks mate.

Mine was an ex-demo so I was never sure what had actually been standard for the SE and what had been added for the showroom order. TOPIx doesn't help in this regard either, as it just shows how your car left the factory.

In theory I didn't absorb any of the cost as the car was already significantly cheaper than buying off the book. However, what is noteworthy is the fact that my recent purchase, which was a 'new' MY13 run-out model, unregistered with only 50klms on the clock was quite a bit cheaper than the original ex-demo I bought 4.5 years earlier. Both are SE, both had 'extras'.

Kev.

Tech pack is SAT NAV, rear camera and front sensors. It has to be purchased with at least the Hi-Ice H&K 11 speaker sound system, as this is what comes with the 7" touchscreen, which gives you the extra 'running gear' screen where you can see wheels and diffs.

So you don't need to fork out for the Tech Pack, you can buy the H&K separately and I believe you can add the camera separately too. Well this was how it worked in MY13.

4.5 years and I've used the 4WD/running gear screen only a couple of times and it was curiosity verses need. You can hear/feel when the TC and Diffs are doing their thing anyway.

Cheers,

Kev.

Nah at least $1.95, seriously though, mine had 320,000ks and we got $6000 trade in on our Amarok, worth looking into I reckon.

Yes sorry it does show that mine does as well I meant to say on the screen it shows the articulation of each wheel my mistake.

Well your very lucky in my case I'm stuck driving an old Yaris to work and my wife does the D4 95% of the time that's why I just ordered her a new VW Golf and I'll get my car back hahah. I guess in your case memory is no biggie then and the steering column isn't that great. But I'll surely say the captains chairs are just magic to sit in that arm rest really makes them a pleasure to tour with!! Any trip is great in a D4 so don't worry haha

Yes sorry I'm not that familiar with the packs on the SE sorry but your dead right I think the screen with all the 4WD pics is a bit of a novelty but kinda cool to see what it's all doing. I can certainly say with out a shadow of a doubt if you like your music the 11 speaker stereo is certainly a bloody cracker jeeze it pumps out some good noise I love it!!

I reckon if I was getting as SE I would definitely definitely get the Tech Pack seems very worth it for what you get although not sure how much it costs.

IIRC, the D4 HSE is the only one with them. You can't just add the armrests on the lower spec models - like you could on the D3 - as the seat frame doesn't have the mount for them in the D4.

Electric seats with armrests come with MY12 SDV6SE.
MY12 also came with traction control upgrade.

I noted from my trip to SA this year that MY12 SDV6SE performed better in sand than my D3 with ediff.

Big screen that comes with stereo upgrade also gives you better phone management.

My MY12 SDV6SE came fairly well optioned.

I think the only things missing from HSE were:
Memory seats
Sat Nav
Front parking sensors.

The above would have cost me extra $8 to $10k

And as I was up at the end of my affordability I was well pleased with the deal.

The free corporate servicing is good.

With a 270mm difference between wifey & I - memory seats everyday of the week. It's a real pita when she drives my bmw with manual seats - I can't even get in to move the seat.

My non-electric seat's adjustment lever must get pushed down getting in and out as it requires regular height adjustment. One day I might look for an electric one - perhaps when the broken stitching in the centre of the squab gets too bad.

Ill agree there I've had a few cars with the memory settings and they are invaluable especially with the mirrors seats and steering wheel my wife is about 150mm shorter but likes to sit up higher and the steering wheel and mirrors changed haha so its easy to when we are on long trips just swap over bang hit the button and your all set no messing around, so yeah we use it almost daily aswell!!

Armrests in the MY13 SE too.

I've read the TC has been improved in every model to the point "e-Diff makes very little difference anymore".

Big screen also gives you better ipod/iphone management once you plug it in. It is BT but gives more menus once connected via the USB iPod connector.
