Well I guess those of you who know or are ex army mechanics may have seen this before but I thought it important enough to post a warning to new ex army Perenti owners to check this out.
Today I was driving through town and my throttle jammed on full.
What caused it was that the throttle cable had frayed and the loose strand of cable was jamming in the cable cover.
I noticed some rust on the cable inside the cab and I guess this is caused by the constant cleaning (sometimes hosing out) that they get in the Army.
So If you have just bought an ex army Perenti please check the throttle cable and replace it if need be.
There was no drama as I was in a good spot to pull over and shut it down and fix it. But you should have heard all the "Landrover" breaking down comments.

if it happens to you
DO NOT PANIC
clutch it select neutral and let it rev, you WILL NOT hurt anything by letting the engine free rev at full governed rpm.
if it wont shut down by turning off the key because the fuel cut off isnt adjusted correctly (it should at least drop revs to around 2k rpm) you have several options.
safest, easiest, most practicable first
1. remove the drain bung from the fuel water seperator and leave it go till it draws in air to the injector pump.
2. stall it by engaging CDL high range 4th gear and dropping the clutch while you mash the brakes
3. pull the air trunk off the inlet manifold and block the opening
4. open all 4 injector unions.
5. dump a 2kg co2 extinqisher directly into the air filter inlet. (you can also dry chem it but that will cost you at least an air filter.)

I had the same thing happen today while I was driving up a hill and droped back to third and the engine kept reving. It gave me a bit of a fright at first I didn't panic remembered the engine is governed and I gave the accelerator a couple of wacks with my size 11 and it came rite. So rest of trip I didn't pust accelerator to floor. I will check out the cable tomorrow.
Cheers

you may not have a problem with the accelerator in your case, it might be the hand throttle cable kinked and causing the pedal to stick down.

I also found that the hand throttle cable is US also. Guess I should have done a better inspection long ago.

I feel lucky that my throttle cable just snapped now! When we replaced it we also decommissioned the hand throttle, I just can't imagine ever using it.

Blknight - in option 2 why do you suggest engaging the CDL prior to selectinga tall gear? I guess it speads the load across more driveline parts...

Seems to be a more common problem than I thought!
Those RAEME chaps must have found it too hard to look at this issue.
