In Dash Android

Seeing Dizza's thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-tutorials/197366-discovery-1-dash-nexus-7-a.html motivated me to share my build and experiences. Dizza did a great job with the D1 dash even with the restrictions of the older style HVAC controls while still keeping the whole thing looking good and functional.
When I did my TD5 engine conversion in my D1 I gained the D2 electrics which included the D2 HVAC controls and had the freedom to put the tablet where ever i wanted.

This is what I ran for a while with an Asus TF101 the screen size was great for mapping but it was too big for the dash and wasn't integrated into cars controls and annoyed me in general.

moutning system was from clickon (holdmyphone.com.au) expensive stuff but its been beaten to hell and has never come of the dash. Unlike the cheap ebay versions.

I ask father Christmas for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 which was what i was going to dash mount.

I picked this SGT3 8 over the Nexus 7 for 1 main reason it was had a bigger screen.

At the time I didn't realise all the the extra work this was going to create for me but i like a challenge and i stuck with it.

I Started off with a spare dash and worked out where i wanted the tablet to fit

This freaked me out a little as it was brand new Galaxy Tab I had got for Xmas..

I didn't take any pictures of how I did the next part. Once i had worked out where the Tab was going to sit i cut the center out only, this way it maintained most of it shape and i didn't create to much work for myself. I also create a jig which used the 4 screw holes for the bottom draws to help keep the whole thing square

This is the back of the dash and from this picture you can kind of see how far the Tab protrudes into the air vents.

Fiberglass mold from earlier posts has been added too, the strange shape to the of the mold also minimises the gaps so i don't loose my cold A/C air behind the dash.

Everything installed. I used vinyl paint and it took a while to cure. Colour match much better now.

The steering wheel controls were from a D2 that are connected directly to the RcJoyCon I can Volume up / down/ play / pause and skip tracks. I made a bracket that bolts to the steering boss and modified the D2 cassette for all the electrics. Took me a while but it works and is very reliable.

Great job. Fits nicely in there now. Looks factory. I wouldn't mind a set up like this in my D2.
