I finally conceded that my shoulder had reached the point where I had to get it operated on, almost total reconstruction and a few days after the operation read 3 books and thought I might watch some telly to pass the time.

OMG what a load of mind numbing soul destroying crap.

endless reality TV

brain destroying morning shows

news that is nothing short of propaganda or very biased opinion

I need the drugs back so I am happy staring at the ceiling

Now I am starting to understand why I have such a problem with the views of so many in society

I agree.
The amount of TV I watch has fallen drastically over the last couple of years. Internet radio and AULRO are far more entertaining.

I totally agree
I could quite easily go with out TV in my house, but Mrs Hay Ewe wanted one and when hers died, she purchased another. its probably only on 2.5 hrs a day, maybe more during the wet.

If we watch any news stuff its the SBS, after that its all media rubbish and propaganda.
If we do watch something its usually 7Mate and some documentories

Yeah, tinkering and a couple of forums are more interesting usually

Most of the news that I see is much worse than that , revolves around killings or some horrible disaster or baby kids left on the street to play dodge with cars. Don't need a thriller movie after the news, usually looking for something much softer or even remotely funny.

Try reading some good non-fiction books. Fiction is as bad as TV.

I know...
A VAST Sat TV box came into the house a few months ago, can't believe the mindless nonsense offered.
Add to that the cleverness Freeview has imposed in the sat PVR manufacturers to stop you fast forwarding the ads on a recording.
Also the news is still the same horror movie.
The TV is off a lot....

reminds me of the Pink Floyd album/movie The Wall - 16 channels of **** on the tv to choose from

Only now it's almost countless channels of **** on the tv to choose from.

You tried the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett? There's about 25 books in the series, a good way to kill a month's worth of spare time...:)

Another favourite of mine is Terry Pratchetts 'The Wee Men', not a disc world novel but a beauty non the less

So-called 'reality' TV shows just annoy me as there's nothing real about them. I mostly watch the ABC and SBS with a focus on news, documentaries and interesting shows about the world. Most of the stuff on the commercials is just rubbish.

TV .... Mindless time wasting dribble, producing a mindless society, = Agenda 21 at work!

I haven't watched one millisecond of TV, nor read a newspaper since March 2013 have not missed it one bit.

tho I did used to enjoy watching Scrapheap Challenge

best thing you can do for yourselves and family, put the bloody TV out on the Nature Strip.

Some of you blokes must be watching the wrong channels. :p

I watch my fair share of TV and I don't see any of the things you complain about.

I see quite a bit of good quality drama, some comedy that appeals to my sense of humour, thoroughly researched informative programs, and great Australian and overseas movies.

Netflix is where it is at. It customises based on what you watch but I still don't have time to see everything I want to. There's some good content out there but Landy fixing keeps me from watching it.

SatKing Motorised Satellite TV System

Part Number: 5570
The SatKing Pro Max Fully automatic motorised satellite TV dish system is the most advanced system on the market, utilizing the latest in flat panel antenna design. This motorised satellite system suits Foxtel and VAST satellite TV. The unit has dual LNB outputs to suit twin tuner STB’s like Foxtel IQ/Austar MyStar and VAST twin tuner receivers.
The SatKing Pro Max is very simple to use simply turn the unit on and the built in GPS system will locate your required satellite very fast. Another great benefit of having a built in GPS system is that if you forget to return the unit to the home position or haven’t wired the vehicle ignition wire to the Pro Max, the motorised dish will automatically retract once the vehicle is travelling above 10Kph (the unit does require 12v or 24v power).
Flat panel satellite antennas also take up a great deal less space on the roof of your van leaving you with more choices for the exact location on your roof in between solar panels and air conditioners. Flat panel satellite TV antennas offer higher signal gain than equivalent size offset satellite TV dishes. The SatKing Pro Max moves on 3 axis meaning the old days of having to manually get up on the roof of the van to adjust LNB skew (turning the LNB clockwise or anti clockwise) when you are travelling from say Melbourne across to Adelaide and then to Perth are gone. The complete head of the antenna simply adjust automatically for you. Automatic skew will also improve the signal quality to assist you further.
The SatKing Pro Max is precision made for Harsh Australian conditions, it is rugged in construction with all main drive gears being metal for long life. The unit is backed with a 3 year Australian warranty. The unit is made in Korea, Korea is famous for making high quality and the latest technology products.
Peace of mind, this unit is supported by SatKing’s 1300 Help line to assist with your initial set up and support you as required along all of your travels. SatKing is a large Australian owned company with a government approved satellite receiver so we are here to stay!
Features:
• Fully automatic self aligning
• Pre-Programmed to receive VAST and Foxtel/Austar
• Flat panel design offers compact size with big performance
• Dual output LNB as standard to suit twin tuner STB’s
• Built in GPS to find satellites fast
• Last position memory to save on search times
• Suitable for Caravan, motorhome, motor vehicle and camping use

• Automatic LNB skew
• Powerful DC motor with metal gears
• Can be self installed, detailed instructions and roof mount included

Started with watching day time tv, then what the family watch as I was recovering from my shoulder reconstruction opp. I am sort of in shock at the amount of crap on tv, I'm very selective and only watch a bit of ABC, SBS, and some other bits n pieces, but when nothing to do and the tv was there - why not and now I know why not :-)

easy answer here all, get an internet connection and download what you want to watch. No adds, no crap and always available on demand, Of course you may feel a little guilty as it is mostly illegal........

My tv died about 4 months ago and I haven't missed it at all. I was going to wait until I got my tax cheque back and buy a big one, but now I am thinking I don't really need one.

So I am going to spend my tax cheque on a front locker for the bush truck, I figure I can get a lot more fun out of that than a tv.

My brother lives in America and he has access to 220 channels and says that there is nothing but crap on all of them, so he hardly watches any tv.

After reading the posts on here I have been reassured that I am reasonably normal.
Thank you. Others in the household have commented that I am a bit odd not liking the TV offerings on commercial channels (and some on ABC and SBS).
I am relieved to note that there are actually others that have the same opinion that most of the TV programs are mindless and a waste of time.
THANK YOU.
Perhaps I am ok after all.:D:D

Cheers,
Terry
