Hi Folks,
There will also be a Sydney pub lunch at noon on Thursday June 12 - at The Ranch Hotel. Link: Home -The Ranch, North Ryde, NSW, 2122

We can then discuss requirements/options on where to go, what is needed, etc for this years D3/D4/RRS weekend away. As well as talk about our rides!

No need to RSVP - just rock up and have fun!

So far, CaverD3, ~rich~ and I will be attending. We hope to see you there!

Cheers,
Rob

That's a shame, I was going to drop the tyre off at Robs place for you, after I spoke to Rob of coarse to see if it was OK.

Just thought I'd bump this up to the top, with some ideas on where we might be going.

From discussions with Redback and TerryO last weekend, we have three possible destinations.

1) Wee Jasper - good camping area but from all accounts, the 4WDing in the Brindabellas is not as good any more, due to track closures. Baz and Kerry are checking out the tracks and camp areas this weekend.

2) Lake Lyall - good camping and can fit us all in - but instead of driving Mt Walker/Newnes SF, trying out near Sunny Corner area. Also close to Sydney - so makes it easier to arrive late Friday.

3) Bylong Creek 4x4 Park - good camping and tracks, but it is a bit further away from Sydney.

As for when - holding it in August could mean snow and chilly nights! Last years event was held in early September. A poll to pick the dates worked last year - so might be a good idea again for this year.

Time to put your thinking caps on about where and when. If you're about - try and make it to the pub lunch!

Cheers,
Rob

Well there you go; I was there last Saturday.
Did not have a chance to drive any tracks, did not have enough time and wandered over that way with no plan, had to get away from Canberra for a while.
I'd also like to put my two bobs worth in for late September.

There is enough space for many Discos in a line.

Hey fellas, after spending the long weekend at Wee Jasper, I don't think it would be suitable, it would be a case of roping an area off at Micalong reserve, some of the other spots would not be big enough, although interest doesn't seem to be as big this time.

Driving in the area isn't the best, lots of tracks, but so over grown, it's not worth the bush pin stripes, and slippery as due to being red clay and not drying out as most of it is in the shade, we got stuck a few times and were passengers on the down hill stuff:D

There is a Shearers Quarters just out of Wee Jasper, whether you can hire it for the weekend I don't know, but going on what we paid just for Micalong, it could be pricey for a family as they charge per person.

I'm doing a search for possible places anyway.

I think the best you can do from Wee Jasper is a day in the Brindabellas and a trip down Broken Cart to Long Plain, but of course that's closed now for winter.

Anyway, see you tomorrow at the Ranch.

Cheers,
Jon

If there is anyone on the Southern half of Sydney that needs a lift - I'm happy to pick you up on the way!

I should be able to attend if I don't have an emergency trip to Melbourne.

We were at Bylong in May, if we got similar numbers as the last weekend I would say it is a bit small, however if there less than 20 it could work.
It is a good place for gymkhana type events but limited for touring about.

Bruce offered to lead a trip into the National Park for us then reneged as his mum was sick, if we could get him to do that for the D3/D4/RRS weekend it would be worthwhile.

Thanks to everyone for the enjoyable lunch! There were a few options thrown out for where to go for the weekend away. I think everyone was in agreement that Lake Lyell would be the best place to accommodate everyone. Being able to book the space is a major selling point. Another is that it is only a couple of hours from Sydney - so getting there on a Friday after work is no major drama - assuming the never-ending roadworks don't interfere!

There are then several places we can drive to within a short distance - Jenolan SF, Sunny Corner, maybe a day trip over to Hill End for lunch at the pub and then back. So I hope we can arrange a few reccies to these places and organise something that everyone will like between now and when we actually have the big weekend.

That leads me to the "when" part... I think everyone agreed that September would be the best time to hold it. Another factor is that NSW school holidays start on 20 September to 5 October. So I think a poll on what date suits everyone would be a good idea. (Mods - some assistance with this would be appreciated - is a new thread required?)

Cheers,
Rob

Sorry I couldn't make it. Had intended to be there, but was invited to a performance appraisal meeting and since it was my appraisal I thought I probably should go:-)
Lake Lyell would be good.
If I can help with reccies or anything else please pm me
Cheers
Mike
