Last week I found myself in one of the show stopper moments. In a car park, go to start the car runs for a couple of seconds then stops. A few quick checks and determine dead fuel pump (no fuel rail pressure). Unfortunately thumping the tank did not help, aside from relieving some frustrations . Call a tray truck and get the car home and int the garage. That night I jumped on line and ordered a new pump, olives, nuts and sealing ring as well as a crankshaft position sensor from LRDirect. £102.19 including delivery. Over the weekend I cut an access hole above the pump (what a great time and effort saver!) with the dremmel. It took no more than 20 minutes. Today the new pump arrived. Fitted and been for a test drive in under an hour. I'm sure if I had tried doing the official LR way by draining and removing the petrol tank I'd still be under the car probably covered in petrol.
Next job the Crank Position Sensor as a preventative maintenance job and a standard overall grease and oil change type service.
