Was on my way to the Ampitheatre meet up on saturday arvo. Heading up towards Ballarat, hit the big hill and dropped the car back to 3rd (Td5 D2a) as I normally do and whammo! Car went spastic, surging and losing power in a big way. Dropped from 110k to 60. No movement in temps and the engine was still running fine.... just nothing 'there'. Thought at first it was my MAF as it felt like fuel was being cut off (which I experienced on a drive to Qld 18 months ago).
Ended up calling it quits (not wanting to be further from home than necessary) and went back to stay at friends place in Bacchus Marsh.
Thought I'd put a call into Alien, three reasons, one he's a good bloke, two, he seems to know a bit about LR's and three, he lives in the Marsh. Oh I knew he was going to the meet as well:D
Anyway, we chatted on Sunday and he suggested that it sounded like a delaminated intercooler/inlet manifold hose. Ok, so I shot back to AMV on Monday morning and got a nice shiny set of blue silicone hoses. Installed them..... no better.
Spoke to Kyle again and he kindly offered his Nanocom (I was back in the Marsh working for a couple of days). He even gave me a lend of a MAF he had changed from his car. Works out his was stuffed and mine wasn't :D
I dropped in to give back the Nanocom and Kyle suggested that maybe it was the waste gate modulator. He then set about isolating it for me an WALLAH! no more problems:D:D
Got a new modulator today, about $50, put it in in 20 minutes and the old girl is back to herself again.
I was really starting to head down the path of 'fuel pump' at about $2k which would have been a bit hard for me atm. Really glad to have some great friends on here. Really hope I can help someone else out one day.
Anyway Cheers Alien, you're a lifesaver and a bloody good bloke:D Oh and Coral too.... nice coffee :D

I'll never forget when The Wife and I were sitting on the side of the road somewhere in the back blocks of Vic, with a poorly functioning radiator.
I was cooling down the engine of 'Fred' down with water from a 5 liter hand operated garden spray.
After getting the temperature gauge back to normal, I shut the bonnet and was about to get back in 'Fred' when the Alien arrived!
This thumping big tipper with it's trailer came along, then made all the noises of stopping, reversed back with the beeper adding to the din, the driver then jumped out, walked back around towards me and I thanked him saying I was alright right now.
He replied " You must be Arthur ", I was gob smacked that I was being looked out for in Victoria  . He introduced himself and invited us back to his house.
Thanks again Kyle.

Kyle and Coral are AULRO Ambassadors!
(Even if we should be calling him MARVIN! )

I concur with the comments above - they are a great couple.
It's these people who make a forum like this into a community / family.
Kyle and others, my door is always open if you are in the neighborhood :)

As an aside I audiorecorded Kyles comment when he completed the trial at MELROSE.. seems like he expected to break something...

I met Kyle and Coral for the first time on the weekend just gone and yes a lovely couple. I was having some wiring issues a while back and I put out the call for a wiring diagram. That afternoon I got a phone call from Kyle with some suggestions.
As for the OP's original problem, I had the same problem late last year. Nanocom diagnosed it straight away and it was fixed for $45.
Last weekend must have been a jinx for losing power. I was on my way to Ampitheartre myself. Leaving Bendigo when I got the 100kph sign I found I had a loss of power. I have had a loose baffle in my cat for a few weeks and when I arrived it was rattling its tits off.
Straight away the penny dropped for my power loss. Partial blocked cat. I thought that I would have enough power for off road in low range, so no problem.
Well when I turned the car off it must have moved and blocked it worse as next morning heading to Avoca it was flat out at 80 kph. I stopped at our meeting place and turned it off. When explaining my situation I gave the cat a kick to demonstrate the noise. After that kick I then had full power again.
Over the weekend this happened once more. A good kick fixed it.
The moral to this story is that some times it is good to kick the cat.

Thanks for the pat on the back folks.
There have been a few members here who helped me also, particularly in the early days of joining.
Helping each other is what AULRO is all about.

Hi Kyle.
Wombat is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of Aug. We're headed out from the Barossa early Fri 1st as SWMBO can't finish until thurs eve. We thought we'd have the 4th to 8th over east and then use the weekend to travel back. :)
