2000 Td5 Standard set up with Probe post turbo. Temp reading above 500 approaching high 500's when working.

What is reasonable and where is the "red zone"??

I am aware that most have the probe in the EGR blanking plate and readings are much higher in that location than post turbo.

Anyone else have the probe located in the flat round spot at the thickest section of the dump pipe post turbo?

I am surprised at how responsive the temperature is to pedal variation, especially speed of temp drop when backing off.

thanks

Move your probe into the exhaust manifold, it's been installed in the wrong location. It's easy to fit into the exhaust manifold with one of these < EGT Mounting Plate - Land Rover Td5 (http://landyonlineretail.co.za/shop/shop-online-now.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.v3.tpl&product_id=108&category_id=26) >. You want to know what temperatures the combustion in the motor are reach, as it's the motor that your trying to protect, not your exhaust pipe.

i have mine before the turbo. Around town typical temps are 300 >500 and from memory country running with a few hills is 650 - 750 max. I'm driving Mornington to Mansfield (city and country) tomorrow and will pay attention to the temps and can advise in a future post..
