Yes, I know you thought I was going to sell my P38A.
Well, I now have a later model in grey.
A Mike Summerfield rang me yesterday and told me he'd bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee and offered me his 1996 P38A 4.6 HSE at a price that was hard to believe.
It was in fact, free, and offered as a way to thank me for the help I'd given him and many other P38A owners. I'm actually quite chuffed about being recognised in that way.
My sincere thanks to Mike and I really do appreciate his generosity.
It was even still registered albeit only until today. I could renew the registration as it doesn't require inspection.
So I picked it up today.
While it is a bit rough around the edges, e.g., dropped roof lining, fading roof paint, needs heater O-rings, etc., it drives very well (steers like a boat owing to a bit too much play somewhere) and rides very well on the Arnotts Gen 3 air bags. It is quite smooth to drive.
I don't quite know what to do with it yet.

Would it be right to tart it up and sell it for a tidy profit?

No, I wouldn't do that. If I did, I'd share the profit with the previous owner. While he offered it to me to use or for spares, it is a bit too good to wreck.

While he offered it to me to use or for spares, it is a bit too good to wreck.Your pictures are quite flattering to the car though. There's bad carpark post damage behind the N/S/F indicator too.
To tidy it up to be good enough for resale would cost you more than the car is worth.

No, it wouldn't. I know a bloke who has a spare parts P38A of the same colour so I could nick his front left mudguard. :p

Have to agree . To good to wreck. Long term project then.

If I was an off-road aficionado, it would make a good starting point for an off-roader.
The Gen 3 airbags will be swapped with the bags on my car.

Ron that was very nice of the Bloke, I would keep it.
Now your mate with the spare parts, do you think he would sell me the upper tailgate ?
After one with no rust and with the glass intact if I can find one.
Cheers.

I thought about re-registering but wife says no.
Re tailgate, what colour do you need as there is one on eBay?

Thanks Dave. I'll have to get your contact details.
BTW, I never did ask about the trophy your FIL wanted to give me to remember Bucko.

Doesn't matter what colour Ron as I would re spray it.
Good condition and if I could afford it !!!
Everything else not important as my interior trim and stuff all good.

Ah, yes. tailgates aren't cheap. Contact Bundalene of this forum. His son was stripping P38As and there may still be one left there.
Alternatively, try Anthony at AJG Spares in Esk, Qld http://www.ajgspares.com/
They were stripping a P38A (maybe more than one) - the spring conversion set I bought came from them.

I can't convince my wife to let me register it - even for 6 months. She reckons I'll never do anything with it.

I always tell myself "I'll keep this one while I fix my other one."
Perfect excuse to register this one for 6mths.. Get the EAS all micky on your good one.

You may recall, the coil spring conversion I bought ended up being destroyed in an AusPost truck fire so I never received it. Unfortunately, the goods weren't insured.
After the recent problems with my white P38A, I've been very tempted to get this one re-registered. I need to clean out my garage to hide the car from my wife. See http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/40298-oh-dear-what-am-i-going-do.html

I remember very well the ride I used to get from my 57 SWB; leaf springs indeed :p
