 My son was a victim of road rage yesterday. Kris drives 80 kms to Uni and back ( there is no public transport for us to Uni) Yesterday afternoon he was on the freeway driving on the speed limit of 100kph on a 4 lane freeway.
(He's on his 1st year of P's and during teaching him to drive repeatedly shoved safety into his mind)
He was tailgated closely by a driver in a 4WD towing a trailer, then this idiot starts flashing his hi beam, all the traffic is sitting on 100kph, but this idiot thinks he must drive faster and has the right of way. Then at 100kph the idiot decides to overtake Kris and swerves in from of Kris. The idiot must have forgotten his trailer he was towing and the trailer at 100kph side swiped Kris's car start from the rear left hand door and took out the entire left side. Witnessess pulled over and made sure Kris was ok. They also left notes with their phone numbers and words of how the other driver was driving erractically prior.
I took Kris to the police station where the matter of road rage is being handled. No Kris is only insured for third party so we are going to have to recover any repair costs from the idiot that caused this. And walking to uni 80kms round trip is not an option.
Shannons do have a section on their policy PDF that is not at fault and other driver is un insured they will pay up to $3800 for repairs.
You drive safely but you gotta watch everyone else how they behave on the road

My first thought, but it was 4 lanes. Which lane was he in, should be the next question, I guess, Bob

Its possible your sons Speedo is under registering & he might have been doing less than 100. There seems to be a certain section of society that think it is their god given right to aggravate any drivers in an outside lane doing even 1 klm/hr under 100.

Ask the Police to check the times his and the baddie may have gone through the toll collection gantry - they can do this via the toll operator. If he's got a partial rego this would help ID the vehicle, then the driver and hopefully assist in repairing his car.

Hope he hasn't lost any confidence.

Matt.

Peak traffic all lanes full, every one doing the speed limit, hit on left as other driver overtook him from a left lane.
Police told me that Kris had done everything legally and was side swiped.
One can only drive as fast as traffic allows, and Kris would not be driving faster than the many cars in front of him.
There was not enough vehicle space for this other driver to pull in front of Kris and cut in with the trailer. Police said other driver has no excuse for side swiping and at the speed it happen could have resulted in serious injury.

I hear what you say, but you can only drive as fast as the cars in front, if 6 cars infront are doing say 99 then you should be driving to keep a safe distance. It was not as if Kris was the only car in that lane and the road ahead of him was clear. A sign may say 100kph but get on a major road during peak and these days may be stuck at 60 kph, so you want to drive not to the conditions, but at 100kph, do you then , flash your lights and demand right of way?

The other driver did pull over further up the road, there would be minimal damage to his box trailer. We have his drivers licence num and all other details

Its just sad that we have so many dick heads on the road now , I have tried to understand why some people drive the way they do and can not come up with any plausible answer . All I can say is they have no comprehension of their role in society and can not blend in with the flow of traffic or maybe they are just inconsiderate bogons. Anyway defensive driving is very important on todays roads

The same jerks realy shine when in Bali on there scooters .

sounds as good as the patrol dick that side swiped my old nc fairlane coming onto a freeway on the on ramp when he was passing me on the on ramp.
pulled over big argument i left with his rego found a cop further up gave him reg and low and behold dick drives by (trying to change his location to try and get away and say was someone else) got his lie details from cop gave to insurance company, took car to a mates panel shop and got it reprayed and fixed by dicks insurance, was cool a few weeks later when i seen said dick with his patrol boiling its guts out with a freshly reprayed car

Bogans buy ex fleet white cars, :wasntme:, he probably has the lift kit on order.

Good to have the witness. My wife's car was side swiped (road rage) after Easter by a hi-ace van in Sydney. My daughter got a photo of the car/rego plate. Unfortunately no one stopped but then neither did my wife fearing what the road rager may do if she did. (My wife hadn't done anything wrong to warrant the other driver's reaction). No witnesses reported it. The van was registered to a business, no one could speak a lot of English there and didn't recall who was driving at the time. Police were good but didn't have enough evidence to charge.

A dash camera in hindsight would have been great although not sure if it would capture the side swipe.

Damage to cars seems to becoming more common nowadays with road rage incidents.
