Gday All,

I posted a thread a while back about our youngest daughter who is a avionics apprentice , who was offered a job with a bigger airline but stayed loyal to the struggling one she started with.
Well sadly she got notified ( by email whilst at trade school in SA ) that the airline she works for has just gone into receivership.

What a saga it has become, trade school won't let her finish cause they won't get paid , her accom has been booked and paid, plus air flights , so its not been a good few days.

So home she is coming to walk the airport and find a new airline who might take on a 2nd year apprentice.

She is very determined do sure something will pop up.

Hopefully the fact she stayed loyal may encourage someone to take her on.

Cheers Ean

Maybe doors are still open with the other airline???

She still did the right thing. Any ex employer should be proud to support an employee who did the right thing by them. Hopefully her ex employer can help and she finds something soon.

Give her a hug and tell her how proud you are of her...............I would if I was there.

That sucks, industry in this country is in a sad place at the moment.

I'm always conscious wherever I work, that if things are going bad, jump ship early.
Reading the employee emails / newsletters, etc... you always know when something is wrong- 'the rats are the first to leave the ship' - CEO's senior management are always on top of it, and usually **** off early. then purchasing spend contracts, employee benefits etc are cut, voluntary redundancies, etc etc...
Sometimes it pays to be ahead of the curve if you are in a position to see these things.

Has she considered Army, Navy or Air Force. I am in Army Aviation and Avionics Technicians are always in short supply. In all service they do 18 months at Wagga Wagga and then off to learn a particular aircraft before posting to a Sqn.

Not good news:(:(:(:(
I hope she is able to find a local to keep her going.
I seem to remember my brother in law got shafted whilst working as a pilot up there with crocodile express.
He now is a Virgin pilot.

I lost my job as a apprentice carpenter after the end of my 2nd year. I still had 2, 4 week blocks of TAFE to do in the 3rd year. First thing I did was go to TAFE enrol and pay for those 2 blocks to get them out the way and add to my cv so to speak. It also meant who ever employed me next, would not A, lose me for that time and B, have to pay for my TAFE and wage while there.

And C - showed your next future employer that you were fair dinkum and willing to make an effort.

Well done

Gday All,

Well our daughter got home from Adelaide last night, was out the airport today and starts with another airline next week and continues her apprenticeship from where she left off.:D

Sad part is that in the 4 days since she found out she had lost her job she looks really run down and very tired, anyway she is home and has found work so im sure she will bounce back to her normal self quickly enough

Thanks to those who sent PM's.:)

Cheers Ean

Good to hear it turned out OK Ean.

Loyalty by employers seems to have died a long time ago. We have just been through a major restructuring here and many are being let go with as short notice as possible.
