I have an intermitant issue starting my Rangie. Sometimes when i get in and turn the key it feels like the imobiliesr is still on. The electrics are on, steering wheel move, radio plays, but engine dosn't turn over.

Have asked the garage to look at it, but it starts first time for them. Only happens occassionally, say 1or 2 times a month.

I had been getting HDC inactive when I have fired her up, and read somewhere that my battery may need replacing?

Which vehicle is it mate?
Have you managed to get a Voltage reading both engine on & off?

You're right the L322 is very sensitive to low Voltages. Otherwise it could also be the ignition itself. Occasionally mine turns and nothing happens, but luckily every time, when i twist back off and on again she fires up.....

Thanks for replying. It's an early 2002 L322 (Mark 3), petrol V8 4.6 HSE.

Yes, HDC inactive faults on startup are due to low battery volts. How old is the battery? Not sure if that is related to it not cranking, but if it is more than 3 or 4 years old then I would replace it. It may fix the cranking fault straight up. It is an easy place to start that may fix it.

Once the battery gets very low, it will leave you stranded without warning (ask me how I know that...:D)

Yeah it well past that. I'll organise a replacement, fingers crossed.
