Hi all, got an issue with my Defender Jack. I just tried it out prior to a trip to make sure it worked, however it failed. It wont pump up ! I have checked to make sure the screw that allows the pump to deflate is tightened fully but still no good. I suspect that it may have bled oil at some stage, as I am not the original owner I dont know for sure if it has leaked oil at some point. I can pull the first length of the ram part out by hand but no matter how long I pump it the rest of the ram sections wont come out of the bottle part.
Its an original Land Rover Defender Jack made by a Italian company Cogar (or something similar). Its the orangy/brown color.
The pump has a rubber grommet on the side that may be a oil fill hole ?
Anyone had any experience with this type of Jack ? Its in a LR Defender 130 Tdi 1997 :p

There is a tutorial on how to repair the "red rover" by Blacknight Dave in the technical section of this site. You can download the illustrated .pdf file therein.

However, if it has been stored on its side there's a chance that it's not working just because the fluid has leaked out - in the first instance remove the filler plug or screw and fill it with a suitable oil (I used ATF) as per the afore-mentioned .pdf file.
