View Full Version : Odd EAS "feature"!

I went out to the garage this morning to the locked P38A and, as I was thinking about what I was going to do, the EAS compressor started running.

As I said, the car was locked and the key was in my hand.

I found the car was still in 3rd gear so I moved the gear lever to Park to start the car and the compressor stopped.

The effect is quite reproducible. It only switches the compressor on in third gear. Changing to any other position switches off the compressor.

I'd really like to know if any one else can reproduce this. Scouse had tried his but it doesn't happen.

That is an odd and interesting feature. I would how it could be put to use for good instead of evil.

Assume the pressure switch still overrides the logic (or lack of it).

Loose or wandering wire.... abraded insulation ? Very dodgy connector somewhere...:o

And I thought I was getting my head around EAS . I'll have to try that one when I get home.

P38s have a mind of their own... Hmmm more than one mind... dozens of them, in fact. :p:p:p

Or it might be Possessed.....

I'll have to try that one. Ours is slowly earning the name OCD.

Sent from my GT-I9305T using AULRO mobile app

Speaking of Possessed, you could name it Christine..........

- Asimov...?

You could re-name your car 'Helva'

Ah so.... and an echo of this in Asimov's "I, Robot" plus the film of the same name.

Ghost in the machine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There was an episode of a science-fiction pulp series that borrowed the concept too...

Whatever, your P38's ECUs have random bits of code that have coalesced into Evil Intentions.

Or, the mind of Sir Joseph Lucas has found a home...

Or

Arthur Koestlers book based on Gilbert Rye's description.

The "ghost in the machine" is British philosopher Gilbert Ryle's description of René Descartes' mind-body dualism.

Certainly fits the P38 and even has a Frenchman involved, presumably for the HEVAC system :p

Ron,

mine did it when the car was left in reverse, as when I first bought the car it used to be reverse into the garage, and it took me a few days to click to why the battery was going flat fast.

Don't recall trying other gears.

Didn't do it after TRS put a new BECM in it.

Just checked then and nope - doesn't do it in 3rd.

Another new "feature" but on my other P38A. A few days ago, around midnight, it turned on its driving lights. When the door was opened, they turned off.

Ron

Its sounds as if you have a dodgy connector or earth somewhere on the beast

Rebooting the BeCM will often correct random weirdness.

Random running of the EAS Compressor might also be related to a problem in the EAS Delay Timer. Maybe swap the delay timers between P38's to see if the problem recurs.
