Received the latest 4x4 Magazine today in the mailbox....this will be one that I need to preserve as it's mostly about Discos from Day 1 to now.
Such a good read for the most of the first 66 pages, even the editor clears the air about how good Land Rovers are.
Might need to renew my sub....so much better than 4wd action where they only go on about Toymotas.

Just thought I would give you guys the heads up on the latest 4x4 Australia magazine.
There's a good chunk of the mag dedicated to the mighty Discovery.
Some good history including a drive of a G4 D2a and an insanely mint launch edition D1 Td5 200.

??????????????????????
I take it from that the writers didn't know what they were talking about???

"We started our exercise with a fine Discovery 1. Not just any example, either, but the first salable unit: a highly prized 2.5 Tdi 200 diesel from the company's heritage collection that has done only a handful of miles and is in better-than-new condition."

Ah, that is closer to the truth. A 200 Tdi (not Tdi 200) is the correct engine, but this is not a Td5 as you stated originally.

I beg for mercy. I am but a humble D2 owner driving his first Landy!

Not having a go at you. Just trying to work out how incorrect and poorly researched the mag article is...

The no-more-V8 headline makes me very, very sad.

Seems fair! There's also an article deeper in the mag where Fraser Stronach calls the D2 'a bit of a dud', not sure how I feel about that..

Fraser Stronach is "a bit of a dud". ;)
Stopped taking any notice of his "technical opinion" years ago. He's proven me right on many occasions.

Not a bad article Brett. Unusually for me, I bought the latest mag (I was bored and there was nothing else interesting at the airport newsagent the other day). Good write-up on a well sorted D2.
Not enough on its own to make me a regular reader again though. ;)

I'd like to see a test,a real test of all the vehicles sold in Australia.I'd like one mag to get two of each model, load one to it's payload capacity and one to it's towing capacity,no aftermarket upgrades, off the floor stock vehicles and set off from Melbourne up to the Anne Beadell, across to the Connie Sue,up the Gary to the Canning and on to Halls and the vehicles are removed if they suffer a problem that makes them unroadworthy or undriveable,I'll bet a months wage only a Land Rover could do it. Well said mate a good read but not enough to be a regular buyer. But all in all a very good insight into the Discovery

Be good to see....although I think a few makes/models would make it.
A mate of mine has taken a hi-lux and a prado straight out of the box loaded to the hilt across some of the tracks you mentioned......pretty much stock as they were leased and didn't have any issues. One of his mates had a D2 at the time which was brand new and nearly didn't finish the CSR.

I cannot imagine a Hilux making it,they drop onto the bump stops just sitting around,a Plado might do it,an LC wouldn't,a 200 wouldn't either. Pat

The no-more-V8 headline makes me very, very sad.
The headline reads "first drive of the V8 replacing blown V6 disco" - you can take that as there is a V8 - replacing - the blown V6 disco... no wait - take it that they can't write English!
