View Full Version : Ricciardo Wins in Canada!!!

Interesting race, fair enough he was helped by Mercedes having ERS issues and Hamilton retiring, but a solid drive and a ballsy pass on Perez before catching and passing Rosberg to cross the line 6 seconds up.

Really pleased to see him reach the top step, might be the only time somebody who isn't in a Mercedes wins a race this year, but he definitely earned it.
5/2 up on Vettel in qualifying and a trio of 3rd places on the road.

Also nice to see Jean Alesi -another man who got his first (and only) win in Canada- although I hope Daniel has more to come I his career.

Awesome effort, great to see a Aussie up the pointy end.Must be very hard for that arrogant tool vettel to put up with.

I don't want to get carried away but i think this young bloke has a very bright future ahead of him.I just hope the bull**** politics and toxic enviroment that vettel brings to the team doesn't affect him.

Set the alarm and got up at 3AM to watch it, so glad I did.

A great effort, Vettel actually seemed pleased for him after the event.

I have no time for Vettel, win at all costs is not sporting, defying team orders to beat your (no, not beat him, simply finish ahead of him) team mate is not the action of a true sportsman.

Good driver yes, sportsman NO.

Great to see a sport, and an Aussie, and a good driver take it to the world again.

Go Danny.

Well, I can remember a few like him over the years.
A man with the initials "M.S." would be the "best" I've seen. I don't particularly like him, but had the greatest respect for his ability & skill as a driver. He had so much ability, He didn't really need to do the dirty stuff at all.

The full BBC race coverage is up on iplayer for the next week before they take it down again.

You chaps will need a VPN server to be able to watch it though as it won't let you watch if it thinks you're outside the UK.

There's a few streams of the Sky Sports F1 channel if you go looking also, their coverage is pretty good, although the BBC isn't bad for free if you can get into iplayer.

Is there some technical reason why the KERS is now known as the ERS, or is it just a way of keeping the general public confused?

As you have said the great man let his skill and talent get him through not acting like a spoiled brat or treating Ruebens like a second class citizen.

Is there some technical reason why the KERS is now known as the ERS, or is it just a way of keeping the general public confused?

The systems are much more involved and somewhat more complex in their setup now, which is a good part of where Renaults issues have stemmed from.
Rather than just having the motor/generator in line with the engine there's 2 motor generators on the car, one in the driveline that provides the extra boost (160bhp over most of the lap as opposed to the old 80bhp for 15 seconds or whatever) whilst the turbo also has one which can be used to spin it up faster so as there's no lag, and allows energy to be harvested from the exhaust gasses.

There's also the brake by wire systems now employed, which utilise a combination of electrical load on the generator and traditional hydraulics to slow the car down, this is all electronically controlled and has caused problems this year, Kimi Raikkonnen is one who's suffered lot because of issues with the system.
The Merc ERS failure seems to have contributed to Hamiltons retirement as without the energy harvesting under braking the smaller rear brakes couldn't handle the energy going through them and failed.

Anyways... hope that helps a bit?

I think only one incident was admitted, there were several with Damon Hill as I remember.

In 1994 Schumacher was disqualified from the British Grand Prix after overtaking Damon Hill on the formation lap, and was banned from a further two races for failing to heed the black flag to begin with. And at Spa he was stripped of a win for a technical infringement.

This left him with a scant one-point lead heading into the season finale at Adelaide. Under intense pressure from Hill, Schumacher went off and damaged his car. Seeing his promised title slip into away he swung into the side of Hill’s car as the Williams driver moved to pass him, taking both out and securing the title for himself.

Verdict "Racing Accident" ;)

In 1997 The season took a controversial twist at the penultimate race in Suzuka, where Villeneuve collected a hefty penalty for going too quickly through a yellow flag zone. Schumacher’s team mate Eddie Irvine – who’d grown used to the idea that he was expected to support rather than rival his team mate – was deployed to help Schumacher win the race, and go into the season finale with a one-point lead.

At Jerez events took a familiar turn. Villeneuve reeled Schumacher in and pounced – only to find the Ferrari swerving unavoidably into his path. This time the contact proved terminal only for Schumacher – Villeneuve was able to limp to the flag and claim the championship.

Schumacher was vilified but the sport’s governing body stayed its hand. It handed down a token punishment of exclusion from the 1997 championship (not that second place mattered much to Schumacher) and required him to participate in a road safety initiative.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Michael admitted this was his biggest mistake and regret in racing.

Amid the excitement of the Canadian Grand Prix, it’s easy to forget that F1’s most successful driver of all time remains in a coma in Grenoble, France. It does not help that there has been no official update on his condition for two months, not from the hospital or his family or management.

Over the years, Schumacher made no secret that Montreal was among his favourite stops on the racing calendar.
Seven of his record 91 race wins in F1 were earned at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, more than any other driver. The image that sticks in my mind has him emerging victorious and sweaty from the Ferrari garage and making a beeline for the paddocks to kiss his wife, Corinna.

Schumacher’s last appearance here was in the cockpit of a Mercedes, in 2012, his final season in F1 and the start of what was supposed to be a happy and quiet retirement away from the media glare.
How sad, tragic and ironic that a slow-speed ski fall should intervene after 20 years of racing at 300 km/h.

I'm sure you have your reasons to think that, I personally think he's pretty good :) He'll probably be at Ferrari next year with Kimi

After 11 years away, Formula 1 is returning to Austria, with the next stop in the F1 World Championship being the Austrian GP and the Red Bull Ring.

And to give fans a taste of what's to come, Red Bull drivers Daniel Ricciardo
and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel are previewing the track in a new CGI film.

The race, last won in 2003 by Michael Schumacher, will be at the old A1-Ring, which has been rebranded since its purchase by Red Bull, although the layout remains the same.

Therefore, Formula 1 returns to the scene of one of its most infamous events: the day Ferrari instructed Rubens Barrichello to cede his victory to Michael Schumacher, in 2002

Enjoy

Three wins in the space of six races.
Certainly benefiting from the in fighting at Mercedes, but still has the pace to have picked up all 3 race wins on merit.

Only 35 points behind Hamilton in second place...

For once that spoilt brat Lewis Hamilton has a reason to whinge,Rosberg did a very stupid thing. Was it on purpose? i don't think so,was it careless and stupid hell yes.

But yet again Dan upstaged Vettel which is always a good thing,he drove a very good race and took care of his tyres. If Dan wasn't driving i don't think i would be watching F1 at all this year, for me the cars sound stupid and this whole economy idea is just ****.

The general consensus -even within the teams management- is that he let it happen deliberately.
Perhaps not as obvious as some previous incidents of German drivers coming together with rivals (Schumacher) but if you compare Rosbergs move and positioning on the track relative to Hamilton with Vettel making a similar attempt on the previous lap before thinking better of it and bailing out, -despite being in a stronger position- makes it that bit clearer, to me anyways...
