It was at the Land Rover clubs Expo once or twice, and was featured in a 4WD Action magazine a while ago too. It uses Maxidrive front portals front and rear and the rear steer locks out for on road use. Nice bit of kit!

If it were a 130 i could understand the rear steer. Mine is a bugger to get in and out of parking lots.

The other 4wd forum that i am on like their buffed up comp trucks a lot. I was surprised to see this in discussion over there as its not a Patrol.

That is insane. But I keep thinking the radiator and fans are pretty exposed to be damaged!

Ys Mal Story (Maxi Drive) built the axle assemblies complete hub to hub including all the portals, rear steer, lockers, axles etc.

When it was featured in 4wd Action quite a few porkie pies were written, and I wasnt the most popular guy on another forum for pointing this out.

As for rear steer being only on a rock crawler, you might want to tell that to Mal who built his first rear steer in the 1960s on a 80 inch series 1! He has had it most his vehicles, S11 SWB etc, since and still has his completely cuctom built 100inch "Sidewinder" 4x4

Mal only built and supplied the axle assemblies, I think a lot of the other work was done by Bruce Davis ??

I had a good gander at it at one of the expos.
Originally for sale at $65k.
It's got a DPL sticker on it from memory, so that would suggest it's had some work done there.
Impressive, but I doubt it will get that asking price.

I wonder if I saw one of the early ones at Yarrangobilly Caves, probably around the late 70's.

It definitely had rear wheel steer looked like a Series LR, but had a lot of non-LR parts, including a V8 motor from a P76.

Whoever it belonged to was quite happy to chat with me about how he had built it.

Late 70s, If it was Mal it would have been his "Sidewinder" I would think. landy parts yes a fair few, but mostlu custom, including chassis and body

The name "Sidewinder" rings a bell and I think that image looks familiar too.

It was quite a few years ago.:)
