Hello Dullbird and Bytemrk + Pop,
I think you could be right about it being a Snowy Mountains Hydro Landy too. So that makes it by 4
Kind Regards

Early survey and construction work was done by Govt.then tenders called for, which was won by Thiess Bros as they had the most engineering plant available,(Dozers,Graders,Rollers,Cement Batching Equipt),they had gone around the Pacific Islands just after WW11 and collected all the Engineering and SeeBee's machinery left when the US forces returned home after the war, as US forces just walked off leaving vehicles and aircraft as well as machinery behind, Australia dumped Millions of $ worth of stuff after the war,"Lend Lease" if you kept it you had to buy it, or destroy/dump it.
I am aware of several thousands of tons dumped off Morteon Island in Qld over the continental shelf, and several dozen RAF L/Lease aircraft dumped at sea, my father spent from 1945 until he de-mobbed in 47 collecting stuff from New Guinea and dumping it at sea, returning to Brisbane, the ship reloading and doing the same on the way back to PNG, he would tell me as a kid,"out of the hold and over the side" trucks loaded with stores, kit huts, anything and everything.

Thanks Pedro, .. a great little film, and not a curvaceous model in sight.
Little Landy certainly excelled in that environment....now , what can you dig up re my belief about Thiess Bros using tojos on S.M.A .project...or am i alone in this?

Tojos were used in the latter stages of the project.
( after the hard work was done!! )
Toyota sponsored the SMH scheme museum and apparently made it clear
they wanted the toyota photos etc featured...
They got a lot of what they wanted...but the truth is always there.
LAND ROVERS (and I hate to say it, their older cousin -JEEPS!) started
and did most of the project.

haven't seen it in person yet so not fully assessed where i will head with it other than it has a front and rear pto as well and at worst it has quite a few bits i am looking at for my other projects..
time and how much rust i find in the chassis will tell the tale...

Yes, they did, for the simple reason that they could not buy Landrovers foir immediate delivery. As you may be aware, Landrover production was unable to meet demand until well into the seventies. As a result, each market was rationed, and at the time that Theiss was needing large numbers of vehicles, someone else had got in first with a large order that was going to take almost all the Australian quota for several years (think khaki).
So faced with no Landrovers Theiss looked at what else was available, and found the Landcruiser. The only other alternative would have been the Austin Gypsy, which was brand new, but unproven. Jeeps were from the dollar area and it is unlikely Theiss would have been able to get permission, and it is likely that delivery times would have been excessive as well.

I would be interested if anyone ever comes across my old SMHEA 86" hardtop. I don't have its chassis number, but the distinctive feature that is likely to remain with it was an oil pressure gauge that was flat with a vertical movement, and was screwed to the RH side of the instrument panel. When I traded it on my SMHEA Series 2, it had a home made tropical roof.

Thiess Bros imported Cruisers as Land Rovers were in short supply. From importing the 4x4s for their own use, they started importing Tiaras and Crowns becoming the exclusive Australian Toyota agent.

the extended brake light is a lucas L518 and generally called a pork pie and they sell for about $100+
the clear light below is a faded lucas 556 and isn't standard but would have been fitted in the 60's i would imagine (they were usually amber or red and generally used for blinkers)
