I bought a 95 P38A HSE. I knew about the roof lining coming down, a bit, need advice on that one. The seats are a bit , well crap, especially the two front ones. Would i be better to have them redone, or buy newer ones. The original stereo has been taken out,, where can i get a new one, he put one of those flash disco type stereos in which i hate

Ah yes drove it from Melbourne to Canberra only to find, no cruise control, any simple ideas. She never missed a beat guys and i averaged 13.2 on the trip home, is that good?.

13.2 is not bad. Search for roof lining on this forum, lots of good advice. Same goes for stereo as it's not a straight swap. Also read up on overheating causes - RR are prone and if they do overheat can spell the end of the engine. Also look up EAS and get yourself a set of Shrader valves. From my own experiences, the guys on here are really great and knowledgeable. Finally, welcome.

Hi

Welcome to the house of fun .. with apologies to Madness :p

Lots of helpful people here

If the aftermarket stereo works OK it's probably easiest to leave it in place, the original units are really showing their age now!

I got my two front seats re done ( well the seat part anyway) where the old leather had split. Cost me $400. They did it in a day. The match was close but only noticeable if I point it out. Cruise control could just be a split vacuum hose, check at top rear passenger side under bonnet (behind the EAS compressor and valve block box. Can't help you with the radio but I would expect its a pretty simple swap out job.
13.2 /100 is ok in my mind. Welcome to the group and plenty of assistance and knowledge on this forum.

There's a reason why the original stereo gets swapped. If you're silly enough like I was to push on the LCD panel with your fingers on a hot day, then that causes permanent damage which cannot be repaired. Usually cheaper to go to JB hifi and grab a different brand.

13.2 is great for a 4.6

Hi derpomz, welcome aboard and congrats on the new Rangie.
I did my headliner earlier this year, here's a link to my thread about it:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/p38a-range-rover/191439-new-headliner-done.html
If you have a read through there is some info on my experience.
Took me a couple of days, but looks fantastic now, a bit sporty even!
Also a great guide here:
Headliner Repair & Replacement (http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/headliner.html)

For the seats, you may want to price second hand vs reupholstering.
Usually the drivers seat will be the worn one, so you may find a good second hand passenger seat and just get the drivers seat redone.
Have a look on ebay, there are often people wrecking P38's of late.

I recently fixed my cruise control as well, here's a link to the thread on my experience with that. Usually it will just be a leak as PeterAllen already said.
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/p38a-range-rover/195553-cruise-control-fixed.html

Hope that helps!

the black rubber pipe feeding the vacuum to the cc unit (a bellows like thing attached to the EAS box at the back left of engine bay) disintegrates. I cut out the bad bits and reconnected them with spare air.pipe and some pull-ties

Hi and Welcome! P38 madness is not rebateable under Medicare...just saying!
If you have not done so, or perhaps are not aware of it ...you need a copy of RAVE (acronym means something like Rover Active viewing environment...)..it's 1300+ pages of searchable pdf workshop manual and electrical trouble shooting ...indispensable. you can secure a copy for a few $ ... see "Dave's interesting things" on the front page of this forum.
You can also download free software for the electronic air suspension (Welcome to RSW Solutions (http://www.rswsolutions.com)) ...also has instructions for making up your own cable which connects your laptop to the OBDII port under the glove-box and close to the transmission tunnel...

good luck with it!

EDIT: there's also www.rangerovers.net quite a few P38 owners from here also contribute to rr.net. It's got a wealth of information in the section "Common problems and fixes"

I noticed that behind the compresser block under the bonette that one of those small hoses had a split in it.

looks like you have found your first easy fix. Most issues can be sorted with a bit of effort and not too much cash if you are willing to search ask and learn.

Its not madness!! Its an addiction!!

These damm things break every now and again, but we come back for more....why??

Most people would walk away from it all but not us.

There is only one other car that did this to me, and just couldn't let it go till the bitter end, and that was my very first car, a Volkswagen Beetle ( dont mention ze war!):wasntme: and now find my self on the other side of the English channel with the good ol Land Rove!

I recently did the head liner too. I'm not as brave as Peter, but it's not difficult to remove and clean up the shell yourself - thats where most of the cost is.

Suggest you also check out Headliner Repair & Replacement (http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/headliner.html) there's ample info on d.i.y. how-to and other options.
I ended up going half way... removed the shell, cleaned it up and paid a trimmer about $150 to refurb the liner as well as the blind for the sunroof. If you go this route, you need to carry the shell on the roof... before and after refurb. It's a good size sail and needs to be evenly secured without fracturing it..there's a fair bit of force on it due to air pressure from slip stream over the roof... drive slower than usual is the message :)

A quick add to Hoges post. I Did my headliner recently. Took it out, cleaned and prepared. I did the cloth at a Mates so just put the shell back in the car and fixed with just a couple of screws to transport it.
The cloth cost $45 ebay, glue about $10, we used trade 140c high temp glue. I took the sunshade out without touching the sunroof. Also added window tint to sunroof glass, heat insulation to the sunshade and sound insulation rubber to the underside of the roof. Also made sure all water drains were clear,

Welcome to the forum derpomz.

I am also in the Canberra region and may be able to help out with some bits.

Cheers, Paul.

A word I forgot on the sunroof blind. The material that tends to be in use now is thicker than the original liner, and on my last two rangies it has made the sunroof blind hard to open and close.

The old saggy material (once the majority of the foam is scrapped off) washes up extremely well. So assuming you can get a colour match with the new fabric, you can cut out a sunroof blind shape from the old liner, and glue it onto the plastic sunroof blind. I used the 3m glue and it come up a treat.
