The rear disc shields on my 2010 Puma have cracked in several places again after I previously repaired and reinforced them around the cracks. If I remove them completely it looks like the ABS? sensor could be exposed to damage. Is there any other potential problems if I take them off. This could also be the source of a resonance vibration that I have not been able to trace as yet.

I've removed them from every car I've had, even the D2, no issues with the ABS.

take them off and throw away. Do you also have an exposed fuel filter above in front of the rh rear wheel with the water sensor switch sticking out the bottom ?

The fuel filter is in front of the rear wheel protected by a steel cover but no wires coming from it and no water sensor only a drain valve.

The rear disk shields on have cracked twice, First pair was at around 30,000km after a trip to Cape York. The next pair lasted up to 90,000km when one break up completely on the road to Mitchell Plateau, it dislodged the ABS sensor, I managed to push it back in and it seemed OK. The second one broke on the Anne Beadell, but I heard it rattle and took it off before it attacked the sensor. Seems they don' like corrugations. Both the shields and the ABS sensor were replaced under warranty, but before my next big trip on corrugated roads, I will glue on some reinforcing strips with Sikaflex around the bolt holes - don't want to lose an ABS sensor because of them.
