Hi all,
Can i drill and put riv nuts in here? (Picture 1)
It is so i can install the box in picture 2 for all my light and accessory wiring.
I know it is a bit late to ask, as i have already made the box :wasntme:
Cheers guys

Thats the heater box, I reckon it wouldn't be a good idea, though i've never looked inside to see how close the heater pipes etc run.

I have opened it up. The matrix sits at the back, the front area is a void that allows a flap to swing about and direct air around the matrix hot/cold.
You can drill the front of the box BUT depending on where you place the rivnuts it is possible that they will interfere with the swing of the flap.
If you get it wrong, worst case scenario is you have to remove the rivnuts and fill in the holes.
Your arrow points to an edge where the flap comes to rest in the closed position - if memory serves correct.

The arrow was just to point at the box. I will be putting the rivnuts on flat parts left and right of that ridge .

sure, was just fyi.
Flap passes closer to front panel to the right of that edge. ALSO the the heater core/matrix rcomes much closer to the front of box towards the bottom!
Probably a good idea to slide the matrix out before drilling, and keep the rivnuts higher up and more central. Play with the full range of the flap to get an idea of where it comes to rest.

I just had a look at a heater unit I have in the workshop.
The red lines on the top indicate the two positions of the flap inside.

If you avoid the R/H 60mm of the front panel you could insert Rivnuts anywhere in the area indicated by the blue arrows, there's plenty of clearance inside, nowhere near the matrix so no need to remove it.
At the 60mm mark there is about 10mm clearance to the flap.
