My search continues for the perfect rover. (Ha ha ha) Any way after reading about getting your boost and waste gate pressure from the inlet manifold i gave it a go. All i can say is wow. I have the auto in the defender and my independent test bed ( my Arse) says its much smoother on take of and is holding road speed better. This is how I did mine. Unscrew blanking plug from left rear of the inlet manifold. I then took the plug to Pertek and bought a 1/4 inch T-piece and adapter to suit and 1 meter of vacuum hose. Connected waste gate and boost line to T piece after screwing it into manifold. Blanked of the vacuum pick up point on the turbo. :p Now i'm sure some old and bold's are rubbing there hands in glee at the prospect of shooting me down. Don't waste your time i'm happy, my egts have dropped, and i'm at 640 ks to a tank. :D

for even better performance .

run the boost compensator from the turbo instead of the back of the manifold.

for even better performance...

remove the line for the waste gate actuator, fit a boost gauge to it and then forget to hook up the waste gate acutator again.

I did this a while ago; boost gauge and waste gate from the inlet manifold, boost compensator from the turbo. It resulted in a much nicer drive. I wasn't game to remove the waste gate from the system though, that seems like the kind of thing that could cause issues... What kind of boost does an un-wastegated 300tdi produce?
