View Full Version : D4 TCCM fault codes

After a day in the Watagans I now have the following fault codes. They appeared in low range, mud and ruts selected. Once the errors were there I was unable to select any special programs and I wasn't able to get out of low range - after clearing the errors I was able to get out of low range at least but the faults re-appeared.

1/1 - P281B - 00 (2F) clutch actuator changeover solenoid - low
1/1 - U0403 - 68 (2F) Invalid data received from transfer case control module.

Any ideas?

Loose cable, or cable that has become dislodged whilst in mud ruts, I believe here is a cable that is slightly exposed on the transfer case

There's nothing obvious hanging loose. I've booked the car in at the dealers for two days. The complete fault code list is actually as long as my arm but the one it appears to be complaining about most is the transfer case. Everything appears to work fine except for not being able to select special programs. Even hi/lo range selection works fine. We'll see what the dealer finds early next month.

Canaussie - looks like you're correct. I had the car up in super extended mode to clean the underside and indeed there are two wires hanging down. I assume they hook up in the black connector on the transfer case but as they are now just 2 pins I wonder if there is a cap or connector missing?

Ron, looks like they are the wires for the transfer box mode selector solenoid. Those pin should be in a connector which I would think is still connected on the transfer box. you would most likely be able to re-insert those back into the connector but you would want to be sure there is no damage to the connector itself or the wires/pins to ensure electrical integrity and water tightness is not compromised.

Thanks Sean, that makes sense with the fault code that is displaying. I'm a bit surprised that these wires would show like that as even with the pins back in the connector a section of the individual wires would be exposed. I might tape it up when it is back together. The connector itself seemed to be ok.

Ok, all fixed up now. Indeed the top section of the black plastic is the connector, comes off with the aid of a small flat screw driver. The connector itself has two holes that are straight through, so indeed the 2 exposed pins at the end of the wires push back in and as long as they are pushed in far enough, fixes the low voltage error.

Just for the record the error was P181B not P281B as above, the error text was correct.
