I thought you lot in WA were all heading up the Canning this season.
Now as an ex Yachtie I hear a rumour on the Grapevine that Defender Mike is now Yachtie Mike and on his way back from Fiji with a new purchase that wont be seeing the Canning:cool:
Any truth in this?:wasntme:

I'm back in WA selling everything up except for the 109. The yachts on the Gold Coast. Hope to be back in a QLD in a few weeks. I managed to take a Borumbah to the Waroona vintage machinery show today . Looks like I will,be driving her back across Australia but this time with a new gearbox and a new fairey overdrive.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/[/IMG]Well my good mate Graeme finished my overdrive while I was away complete with new lay gear that I had made here in Perth because you can't buy them. All new bearings shafts etc , so it's like brand new. We fitted it this morning and made a few modifications. I bought an oil catch can from Supacheap and converted the sump plug on the O/D to take a 90 deg 1/4 inch fitting. Plumed this up to the catch can and increased the oil resivour by 100%. The catch can had a sight tube so it's easy to keep an eye on the oil level. The can is mounted so the oil level when full is the same height as the O/D level. I took her for a test drive and it work great not a lot of noise. Quite a reduction in revs then higher top speed as expected. It engages very nicely with a positive feel but disengagement at speed is a bit grinding. There must be a knack to that try a blip of throttle or something. It may need some adjustment as well although there doesn't spear to be any on the rod that engages . I'm getting Borumbah all ready to drive back to Qld in the next few weeks . May fit some new brake pads and do the front CV deals which are getting a bit leaky.:)

I got onto Gus about the OD he suggested moving the selector fork a bit . This worked great moved a couple of mill and it disengages perfectly. :)
I will be back in a Qld soon and looking for somewhere to store Borumbah while we are cruising .

Fitted out the back of the Series 1 for the trip East. Cost less than $50 and took 3 hours . I can sleep in the back and fit all my tools and stuff under the false floor. The trailblazer full of cold beers and frozen dinners and I'm ready. Carrying 140 liters of fuel with the 2 Jerry's and long range tanks . Hopefully get across the Nullabor without having to pay $2 a liter. Fitting new swivel hub seals before I go .

Oh dear just got a box full of neutrals . Put her in 4wd to get home . I think it's an axel Bugga. Just on my way to get tyres will pull the axel out when I get home. Now where will I get one of them full floater .

IME the short axle usually goes first, as the same stresses are concentrated over a shorter distance.
If you can afford it I would see if HTE have any of their upgraded axles in stock that they can express post. Should be under $500/pr.

Most of the aftermarket cheapies are made of cheese, and the 2nd hand ones have had an unknown life.
I think I turfed out all my 10-spliners, but will have a look. LandyAndy on here may have some, and in perth you could try west coast rover.

Get yourself a pair of new 2A halfshafts and fit both of them.
You will need a pair of spacers made up to fit the longer replacements and they can be made by machining out the centre of a old driving flange.
Find a pair of used / worn driving flanges, maybe it's a good time to replace the ones on yours anyway and fit some new ones.
The bolts need to be replaced also with ones that have a shank that is longer by the same thickness of the spacers.

Got onto Hi Tough engineering he has a set of upgraded axels and flanges ready to go not cheap but not made of cheese either. You wouldn't believe I'm heading to the Gold Coast and that's where he's based . 12 kilos by express post won't be cheap either.
