Is it just me or has anyone else had a gutfull of australian ads on tv that use fake yank accents to try and sell their products?

Maybe the commercial channels are just trying to tie the adds in with the show you're watching , I mean when was the last time you heard an aussie voice on the commercial network that wasn't the news or one of those dreadfull reality shows :no2: Go abc

I think you'll find they're American adds. The Australian companies don't want to spend money on dubbing Australian accents any more. I love the ones that have someone of African/American appearance in the cast. So Australian, not.

most car ads are driving LH drive vehicles now.....they usually add a small disclaimer.
disclaimers in advertising allow them to put in as much bull**** as they like.
my pet hate is the Ashley and Martin ads that dominate any male watched program...it makes me cringe....I mean if I doubled or thickened the amount of hair on my head I would just ooze so much confidence.

I love a company selling a car here in Australia, and its a reasonable seller
whose ad shows body trim and left hand drive not available in Australia...
OVERSEAS MODEL SHOWN
well, sell it overseas then, I'm not interested.
If you can't cough up to show the RHD model or the AUS version I can be pretty sure you aren't going to go to the trouble of servicing / bringing in the right stuff for servicing etc..
Fair enough for a low volume selling vehicle but these are not that.

There's quite a few that use English/Cockney accents too. I particularly don't like the Ladbrokes ad. I don't care if Ladbrokes are a UK outfit, the accent is annoying along with the actual content. But then again, if I hear "fair suck of the sav" or similar said in Strine in a movie I find it cringe worthy. I'm a sensitive guy, we should ban all accents....as soon as we all learn to speak again?
PS I wonder what French sounds like when Chinese people speak it?

Have to agree with poster #2 I haven't watched TV (except the news) for years. What's the point of watching end to end adverts with a small amount of junky programming to join the advert sequences together.

But Ausfree, that's how we all live isn’t' it. You have to watch the ads to know how live, and function, and be told what to buy so you will live forever.
You know, running round laughing and smiling, not a care in the world.
Even the Pets are in on it.
Isn't that how we are supposed to be living.........Surely it is..........
(no sarcastic smiley available) ;)This one will do..................

Small hijack... but related... I had to go for some tests recently. Required a morning in hospital and...whatever... anyway I paid the $200 excess upfront on my Medibank plan and Medibank paid the remainder... three weeks later I get this self congratulatory email..." hey xxxx Medibank came through for you and paid $800 for your recent hospital visit:eek:
Well WTF! They take $ xxx per month from me for the privilege and because I claim once in a decade for what they probably spend on morning tea in the office ... I saw the same thing happen with a former colleague in the USA.. perhaps they're taking lessons...it's probably new governance procedures ... we congratulate ourselves for paying out what we are contractually obliged to pay by law... all that was missing was an "accent" on the email:wasntme:

I'm not talking about the ones with the amazing steam mop or ab thing or whatever,i mean the ones for say a car yard,or an event, with an obviously fake accent.

In my used car dealing days I was wryly amused by those dealers who would go to the USA for a few weeks and come back with an American accent.

Hated that on mine, so downloaded John Cleese to mine - much more refined (and funny). Depending on what brand you have, there are 100's of options available (for a small fee of course).
