Hi everyone, I'm after advice on which tyres I can fit to my RRS I have the 20' alloys and would like to fit a more off road tyre. I have narrowed it down to the Cooper Ltz or the Nitto Grappler but would like to know what size will fit on my Stormer wheels, I have seen 275/45/20, 275/55/20 or 285/50/20 any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

285 is probably too wide on OEM rims - will only just miss the front upper control arms by a whisker.

Cheers,

Gordon

Thanks Gordon I will stick with the 275 and from reading previous post I think I will go with the coopers they seem to be the most popular choice.

Nitto and Kumho do AT tyres in 265 50 20. Which will give you more sidewall over the 275 45 20 of the LTZ. I think if you go to 275 55 20 you will have issues with clearance.

Gordon is right. I have 285/50/r20 ltz and it is close but I have no rubbing and I also think you do not want anything less that a 50 profile.

Thanks for the advice, I will take a look at the Nitto and Kumho AT tyres. I do like those cooper tyres they look good. I do think I will need at least a 50 profile so the 265's might be a good idea.

Hi Vs2,

I'm looking to do a similar thing with my 20" rims. Would love a set of 18's but don't have the space to store them. How do you find the cooper LTZ as an everyday tire? Much more noise over the HT style of tyre?

Also given how tight the fit is would you stick with the 285 in future or look at something a bit smaller?

Thanks heaps,

Andrew

Only done about 4k on them and no off road as yet. So far so good and if there is any difference in road noise it must be minimal as I cannot tell the difference from the Pirellis. IMO they look correct for the D4 being the type of vehicle it is. I don't see any difference in MPG but I do run 40psi all round. Also there is more rim protection with the wider tyre on the standard width rim. I would not change back to a smaller tyre unless I was doing serious off roading (possibility of slight rubbing of AC pipes in rear) Maybe Gordon could elaborate.

Thanks for that, helps a lot.

Cooper LTZs for the win. Had my Coopers for nearly 10,000Ks and they haven't missed a beat. Towed our 3.2T caravan to Brisbane from Melbourne (return) and were faultless. Had them in the mud at Rubicon on the weekend as well as rock and gravel up at Mt Skene on the Queen's Birthday weekend and they perform great. Low road noise, just keep an eye on the pressures over time.

All the best, Scott

Good to hear Scott, which size do you have?

I have the 275 45 R20 but will probably go to the 285 50s on the next set just for the extra wall.
Mind you I will be looking on here very closely to see if the other guys have had any clearance issues before I make the order. :)

Hi Scott. What pressures are you running in those Coopers?
Thanks, Lew.

Running 40PSI, was told to run between 35-40. I find after a month or so they'll loss a few PSI. That could have something to do with the temps getting down with winter upon us, unsure.

Hi All,
My mate is running the coopers LTZ zeon 275/45/20 on his 4.4 V8 RRS. He's done a complete lap of Aus and we've just completed the gunbarrel H'way and the tyres have performed unbelieveably well. After over 40 000 K's he's only had 1 flat tyre and has had no sidewall damage and all this on a car driven buy a guy who has no idea how to slow down {think oodnadatta tack at 140+}. I'm so impressed by their performance that I'm considering not sellling 19's and putting the zeon's on and using them for all my local trips. Great tyre
regards
Brian

Decided to go for the Cooper LTZ's 275/45/20's they look great and got them for a good price, $380 each from lyle at Kenwick Tyrepower which was $60 per tyre cheaper than my local Tyrepower.

Lyall is always cheaper. Been buying my tyres from him for about 15 years or so.

Only thing is some of the guys reckon they no what they are doing, but I need to keep an eye on them and give them instructions each time when they take the wheels off and do the alignment.

Don't know for sure, but it does appear that the General Grabber AT is now available in 275/40/20. It appears on their website and Bob Jane T Marts list it. (bobjane.com.au). I can only assume they are now available.
Cheers,
Lew.

I've noticed that General Grabber AT tyres are now available here in 275/40/20. I think this is a very recent addition to their range here. Bob Jane T Marts certainly list them.

Cheers, Lew.

I have that size on my Touareg, but not in that brand....they look small next to my factory disco tyres.

General Grabber AT (not AT2) also available in a 275/45/20 110H load rating. Personally I'd stick with Cooper LTZ Zeon though.
