Hi,

I have a RAVE CD that I purchased from Dave a few years back. Whilst it works fine I no longer use a PC at home.

I'd like to avoid firing up an ageing laptop every time it need some info and would like a version that works on my I-pad. It would be nice and portable too.

Does such a version exist? And if so where can it be obtained from? After all it's just a searchable .pdf isn't it?

Cheers,

Ian

Hi.
I had the same problem. Google the Columbian land rover owners web page. The site is in Spanish but its easy to find the page titled "manuals". In there you will find what you are looking for. Most manuals are in English.
I just downloaded what I wanted as a PDF and have them all in iBooks. Try thr link below.

Legion Land Rover Colombia :::::: Bienvenidos!! (http://www.legionlandrover.com/index.php'sec=3)

Cheers.

Forgive my stupidity, but how do you save them to iBooks?

the latest ones in the shop have been liberated and can be used on anything supporting .pdf...

Hmmm. Maybe I'm just a bit thick. I can open a PDF in Safari, but can't seem to find how to add that to iBooks.

That seems really complicated. While in safari I down load the relevant PDF. My iPad then asks in a little screen at the top right of the screen if I want to view in IBooks. Select yes and Bobs your uncle and Fanny's your aunt.

Cheers.

Ok. But can you give me clue as to exactly what liberated means? I'm not very tech savvy.

Also, are the range of different manuals just combined into one huge .pdf or provided separately? and, importantly for me, is the search function (which I particularly like in the original RAVE CD I have) the same? What I really want is all the functionality of the CD version on my i-pad - that would be fantastic. One large .pdf document although good would be less useful.

Cheers,

Ian.

Put in the CD - even on your mac. Open Finder and look at all the files.

rummage through the folders and look for the 'lt" folder. In it are the pdfs of the manuals and other bits.

Rename the few pdfs that you want (you don't need them all) and relocate them into another folder somewhere.

Then next time you connect your iPad to sync it, go to the bottom of the apps page and select iBooks (or PDF reader etc) and upload those manuals in to there.

FWIW, I use Goodreader 4 as my document management app on the iPad. it works very well, has good chapter support, excellent search functions. I would have nearly 50,000 pages of Aircraft manuals on there. It's the best I or my colleagues know of; it costs around $4 IIRC

---------
A much slicker way is to sync several folders on your computer to drop box or Sugarsync, then within Goodreader sync to those folders. Then when you drag anything into your folder on your computer it will sync to your iPad. I run 5 different folders like this (of which the LR is one).

Thanks Stallie - just the info I need!

When I get home tonight I shall liberate the files on the RAVE CD I have previously purchased :D.

Thanks for the other tips too - I have good reader and dropbox so shall try that out.
