Dual Fuel Stoves & E10

Has anyone had trouble using E10 petrol in their dual fuel stoves? Is it okay to use m/ethanol in dual stoves? Does this lead to problems with seals, corrosion, etc, as m/ethanol is an alcoholm based fuel whereas as petrol, shellite, lighter fluid etc are petroleum based?

I would assume there would be possible issues down the road as far as corrosion goes....
I started using petrol in mine when I 1st got it but noticed that it would never really have a nice burning flame. I tried Shellite and been using it ever since w/o any issues. It's a cleaner fuel w/o additives....

I agree with Rob. I have used petrol in mine, and it works at a pinch, but it's not as good as Shellite. As they use so little fuel, a 4ltr container of shellite lasts ages, so never needed to switch to petrol while out camping.

If I was you, I'd ask Coleman directly. Get it from the horses mouth. You'll have exactly the right info, any warranty that may exist will be intact, and you'll be able to tell us!. They're generally pretty good to deal with. Flick them an email.

i mainly use petrol in my stove and lantern.

the only real petrol baddy i have found is using the 98 octane super unleaded

i did have to disassemble and clean it up after using the 98 in it as it gummed it up something shocking.

i stick to using 91 straight unleaded in mine without too many issues over the last few years.

isnt as good as the naptha or shellite but way more convenient for me.

I use only ULP however without any issues (including 6 weeks straight a few years ago). Never tried E10(to my knowledge). The convenience is great. I have a new camper with gas stove so I am using that now but miss the old coleman which I sold to the new owner when the old camper went but still use the lantern.

Hi,
I used the old 'standard' petrol in a Primus stove years ago. After about 2L of fuel through it, I had tostripthe valve assembly to decarbonise it.
I now only use Shellite.

My brother in law just paid $26 for 4l of Shellite- Ouch!

Where do people buy it from for a good price ?

Hi,
Places like reject shops often stock 1L bottles of metho, kero, turps and sometimes shellite. Check the brand names, and try and find the local distributer. This sortof stuff is packed by local sheltered workshops, and may sell you a 10L Jerry can full at a good price.

Always use shellite ... unless we run out whilst out, then just ULP91 (never tried e10) ... doesn't work as well as shellite but is easy to find! :) (533 stoves & northstar lamp).

Paying $30/4L from BCF because no one around here stocks it (except Supercheap at $12.95/L) :eek:

4L goes a long way.

Only ever used unleaded in my Coleman for the past 18 yrs.
Never had a problem. Cheap to run. :D
