This weekend is 4 weeks since we got our car & my wife still says I don't smile this much even after sex....well Im not too sure about that.
But anyway it now has 4500k's give or take & its brilliant. we have gone down to Moruya via Araluen, up to Brisbane and back and it still amazes me. I certainly didn't take it easy on from day 1 either, didn't baby it, but not thrashing it either and the engine is still getting better.
It has some interesting features about it, especially how the remote fob will raise & lower the car, not sure when I would need to use that, but clever all the same.
The only grip I have is the Meridian sound system, having had some time with it, I don't think its worth the coin they charge for it. Im going to have my Alpine mono bloc sub amp & Alpine S type sub from my previous Jeep installed & unhook the Meridian sub, that will make a huge improvement to it.
But other than that, Im so happy with it...there is also a certain smugness that comes from knowing that you have on the best 4wd's on the road, especially when you pull up along side a Prado.

Wait till you get a chance you take it up a stomach churning sphincter tightening rutted, washed out near vertical dirt track which lifted and locked Patrols give up on and see how much you smile after it walks up that like you were just going to church on Sunday:D
Glad you are enjoying the Permagrin.

Haha yeah they are a great car and just so easy to do the kms in they just eat them up we have had ours since the 1st of February and just about hit 19000kms. But I dunno why they just bring a smile to your face there a great car so practical and just do everything so easily!! We love ours and it's always good to burn away from the lights leaving everyone else for dead haha.
I have the Harmon Kardon system 11 speaker and can not fault it really love it sounds awesome!! I did test a new sport when I was waiting for my car to get delivered and it had the Meridian system and I wasn't that keen on it either. I dunno I just find the HK system really nice could be wrong dunno.

Yeah they are an awesome car that's for sure!!
I've got the HK Logic 7 in mine and I find it a brilliant system very clear and excellent clarity. I agree with you Tiddy the bass is not quite as impressive but given the right track it'll pump out out a good beat. I'm guessing it's tuned for more high end clarity that low down bass. Also are you playing compressed audio of off a cd or similar? The compression on most music tends to clip the low frequencies out so you could be missing those. I get a noticeable difference in mine between these formats

Whats the difference between the Meridian and the HK in D4's ?
In my D3 (Logic7), there is a significant difference in sound quality depending on the compression of the source - I try to avoid playing directly from devices (iPod/iPhone) and burn high quality .mp3 to cd for car listening or use actual cd's and it makes a very big difference particularly at low frequency ranges.

Hi Parke
You're right, the mid range & top end in the Meridian is very very good, but the bottom end is lacking. When I had my Grand Cherokee which had an Infinity Gold system, but with the Alpine amp & sub, I had a particular test track I would play. It was awesome, with the sub the low end grunt, you could really feel it through the seat. It was so clean but powerful too.
When I got the Discovery, with the Meridian system including the factory sub, played the same track, nowhere near what used to sound like. It is the bottom end that doesn't cut it...so in with the Alpine stuff, that will do the trick.

Have you adjusted the equaliser to boost the bass? Might help.
Personally I have the HK system, and it's good enough for a vehicle sound system; don't expect high end sound especially since road noise intrudes. Have to say though the sound isolation in the D4 is excellent.

Yep, have tried all the audio adjustments, but its not the bass, it's the sub which is not delivering. The point of a sub is that the bass can wound back & the sub level increased to provide the low end response without distortion.
Anyway the external sub & amp will soon solve the issue, probably me just being too pedantic.

This, definitely! Get the same high bitrate MP3 and burn it to a CD and then listen to the diff between that and playing it straight off your mp3 player through the AUX channel. Big difference - noticeably better fidelity and bass much more punchy.

FWIW, If you want the best reproduction; record the songs as .wav file format - Wave sound files. These are much better quality (no loss at all from CD quality), but obviously with that they are much bigger file sizes (approx. 10x) when compared to the very compressed .mp3 format, so you won't fit any where near as many songs on a disc. I play drums along with music for practise and could not hear the instruments properly with the mp3 format. Re-dubbed as wav files and all good. Hear every instruments notes in full.
I hope there is amplifier adjustments with the Meridian systems. I opted out of the 825W 17speaker system because of cost and someone on here said the standard HSE Hi Ice 380W system was pretty damn good. Three weeks and I'll find out for myself.

I Bluetooth all my music or plug it via USB iPod and find the 11 speaker HK system to be bloody awesome and I love my music good quality and with a bit of volume so I should hope the 17 spk one is out of the world haha. Fingers crossed I would of loved it in my car but I'm really happy with the 11 spk in the HSE.

Doesn't make it very clear, but maybe there's a "fix".....
