Kev, you are supposed to hook the parachute on to those air portable lightweights before dropping them out of the aeroplane.

AHH. I presume the finger wasn't injured, just an accident.

Hello UncleHo,

You certainly would have been shaken around a lot during the accident and will be tender for a quite a while. I hope there was nothing else but bruising? We seem not to bounce as well as we did in our younger days.

I trust that everyone else in the Light weight was okay too?

Did you take photographs of the other vehicle or was it a single vehicle incident?

It is certainly going to be a challenge getting things right in the vehicle again!

Kind Regards
Lionel

Looks like the lightweight turned completely over.

Hi Kevin,

That's a sad looking lightweight! How did it happen and are you 100% ok? Looks like it would have been a bad experience to be part of.

Cheers,

TimJ.

G'Day all. Kevin has internet issues so I hope he doesn't mind that I pass on a Sitrep.
Kevin was solo when he left the road at medium speed and into a table drain. LW did a pirouette and ended up on its roof.
He escaped with minor bruising.
Appears to be minor damage, ie, chassis and bulkheads undamaged. We might be able to straighten most of the guards out.
Crappy timing as it was for sale and he was looking for a Perentie to take its place :(

Give Dave Benson, Northern Tasmania a ring. He has a lightweight on Gumtree at the present and may have some other parts to suit them. The one he has there has a mixture of light arrangements from the two series.

G'day Folks :)

A BIG thank you to all who wished me well :)

Now I will tell you what happened :( I took it down the road at about 7.30pm to warm it up and road test it for the Caboolture Swap Meet and Display on Sat 21st, as I was heading home up our semi-rural road, the bonnet flew up,(catch failure??) I lost vision, braked and pulled left,to far Oops! down the table drain(about a metre deep) did a pirroutte  and flopped down on the roof/canopy :( I crawled out the rear and through the ripped canopy, mumbling '****" clambered up the table drain side and then exclaimed "Bugger" the neighbour (3 doors down)came out and helped me over to their patio, she called the Ambo, somebody else called the Plods,I called my wife and she walked the 150 metres down to me,I took the Ambulance option and had a bumpy trip into Caboolture Hospt. my blood pressure was fluctuating, was released to go home about 11.45pm,a little bit bruised and with sore muscles and neck but otherwise OK :)

Hey Brian! all those years driving Stock Cars around Exhibition Speedway in the 50/60's clicked in ;) but it was a wild 15 seconds :woot:it was certainly :Thump: minute

Yes, I will rebuild it :)

But it will have to wait until I have the funds and have finished doing my 2a LWB,I have done the motor(Timing Chain Etc.), just need the carby refitted, and re-do the brakes as 12+ months idle they will need a re-build,might even do a boosted dual circuit system using a Series 3 LWB system changing the guard top to suit,it will go a little way to help when used in modern traffic :)

cheers

G'day UncleHo,

Good to see you typing away and letting us know that your are relatively okay.

Is there a difference in shape between the 2A and the Series 3 mud guard? I am strictly Series 3 so that is the limit of my experience. I do know that with the Series 3 there is no difference in the guard top and the dual circuit system fits under the hood with no modifications needed.

I just adapted my diesel Baldrick from a non boosted to a boosted system using all Series 3 parts.

Kind Regards
Lionel

G'day Lonelgee :)

The top rear section of the guard has a small cutout giving space for the booster and M/cylinder and they have a slightly different pedal tower,it depends if I can source a pair of 6cylinder front brakes as they are 3inches wide, that would give me really good braking, for a drum braked vehicle,it all depends on available $$, but new radiator comes first ;)

cheers

I have a S3 windscreen in my parts collection from a S3 LWB I wrecked out years a go, It has shatterproof glass which I will replace with Laminated the same as the Lightweight.

When the local kids around here do that they refer to it as ditching and bailing. Big difference is they are driving a car that belongs to someone else - seems some times age does not bring wisdom.

Wisdom being the correct use of knowledge, Kevin is fairly wise.
He wasn't doing fishtails or hooning, just a short test run when the bonnet opened.
Something similar has happened to all of us. Only difference is that there was a 1 meter deep drain involved. If you saw the locstion of the accident, you would applaud the lack of damage to driver and vehicle.
Wisdom or lack of it wasn't a factor.
