Well here is one for the books today the wife and i went to look at the snow at Mt St Gwinear near Erica. We were on our way up to the mountain when a vehicle coming the other way stopped us and stated the road was closed due to trees being down. He stated he was going to tell officials, we in turn decided to just have a look at Mt Erica which is close to St Gwinear. We traveled up to the car park and on our return came across a tree over the road which we were able to move sufficiently to continue down the mountain. After making it to the main road we decided to stop at the local National parks office at Rawson (Parker's Corner) to inform the parks people that we had moved a tree off the track and that there was one vehicle still up at the mountain which could be isolated if anymore trees had fallen.
Remember the first guy said he would notify the Parks people of the trees across the road and that there were people still up on the mountain.
Well when we went in to do the same i was informed by the National Parks people that they do not do tree removal and that when they fall over the road they leave them to stop people going up the mountain. When i stated that the people who were behind me could get stuck they said i should contact SES or the Police as they had instructed the other man who had come in to report trees across the road to St Gwinear and that people could be stuck there. In their National Park.
I thought that the National Parks people were responsible for the Park when i worked for them thirty something years ago we cleared fallen trees made sure people were safe and clear from the Park at night and not stuck/ stranded.
Now i was told the same thing by two people working at the office i am disgusted they had no thoughts for the people in their park and were not going to make sure the areas were clear for the night.
Shame /Shame /Shame as Derrin would say what if someone was stuck and died up there?
