your taking to long to post your thread ..

if you have a very long post, use a text editor on your computer to type it up and when done, copy and paste it into a new post.

most times you can hit the back button on your browser and it will magically reappear, but not always.

That's unfortunate and I guess somehow your connection to the site was interrupted while you were typing.

Why not compose your post in a word processing program (e.g. Word if you have it) and then when you ar ready to post just copy the whole of what you have written and paste it into the message space on this site?

Then if something goes wrong with he connection you've still got the original draft.

Works for me if I am trying to get what I want to say right before I post. :)

This problem has had me a couple of times, so now I always CTRL+C the post content before hitting submit just in case.

Log outs on this site happen way too quickly!

Incisor can you not extend the session idle timeout to a couple of hours or more? A lot of other forums dish out a session cookie that is valid for days, effectively leaving it to the user to decide if they want log out or stay logged in.

Does allowing everyone to stay logged in slow the system down though??

20 minutes is the 'normal' keep alive time for a session....

Ditto. I suggest your browser is at fault, look at the cookie settings.

My bad. Was a while ago.. the session cookies are set to 0 so they last as long as the browser session.

The problem is if you take too long replying to a post you get an error start again msg. The only way to fix is to go back to the thread and hit reply to start fresh. It does not log u out.

This must be a post timeout setting in VBb or a bug? Annoying when it hits you after uploading images!

Well, I hope it's a really good thread and something to look forward if you spent an hour on it.

the timeout is set to 20 minutes.

that is what most big boards have it set to.

it can be overridden by some internet security packages and also by browser settings so i have no 100% way of controlling it, sorry.

there is a free program called bbeditor (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/bbeditor/) that lets you do posts up on your own computer and lets you include some of the bbcodes so you can just copy and paste to a post on the system with a lot of the formatting in place.

i can offer no 100% solution as there isn't one i am aware of.

I find it is very easy to lose what I have typed when using the iPad. When I move off the page to go to check something, often when I come back, the message has gone and cannot be recovered. Copying it doesn't always help as I often want to copy something from the other page to paste into my message.

For me the answer has been to submit semi-complete posts, go to the other page, copy what I need, come back and edit the post just submitted.

This is not an AULRO problem, it happens on all fora.
