[PLEASE HELP!!please help
I have a 2001 v6 Freelander and I joined this forum to get some advice from some intellectual people I'm sick of hearing comments from wreckers and mechanics on how to fix the problem, is to burn the vehicle. The problem is the auto, it's fine until I'm on the road for 5 min's or so and it starts to vibrate/shudder seems through the left side at about sixty k's under acceleration and when I back off it drops into first gear with F4 blinking on the dash and won't accelerate. If I wait a little with ignition off it will start and drive ok for a minute or two and does the same thing all over again I have changed the oil and followed instructions on how to check the oil level and all seems ok the old oil was not burnt
Look forward to hearing from you knowledgeable people
James

Threads merged.

While I'm not familiar with the faults on a FL, I would assume that the transmission is going into limp mode & is staying in 3rd(?) gear giving you the impression that it's not accelerating.

Have you had any proper diagnosis done at a specialist/dealer?

Thanks for replying no I haven't had any expert look at it I have only phoned and asked questions because the Freelander is unregistered and the advice of the local land rover people was not very professional to say the least

We have a Forum member who is very knowledgeable on Freelanders. He often looks into this section of the Forum, so be patient and see what he says.:) I am no expert, but did you check to see if any coolant had leaked into the Tranny?? This can cause problems.

When the f4 flashes it has gone into limp mode and has logged a fault in the ECU. Getting the faults read will help with the diagnosis.
Speed sensors are common on these and will do what your talking about. But could also be valve body or lock up clutch. Need fault codes that have been logged.
Where you at?

Your a bit far away from me to borrow my Hawkeye to read the codes. Have a look in members with diagnostic equipment section, there maybe someone close to you that could read the codes without the high costs of going to the stealers.

Here's a link to testing the solenoids and sensors.

Thanks again for taking the time to help, I paid a mechanic to come to the house with a scanner and he couldn't get any reading on the transmission at all, he said he should of got something as it could read the engine fine and his scanner was the best and it cost 10,000 blah! blah!,blah! however I looked at the link you sent me testing solenoids and I noticed on the bottom of the sheet
TCM (ECU) in the under-the-hood electrical[

but this mechanic only plugged the scanner into the left side under the dash somewhere, am I to conclude he has not done the job wright? Ill check the solenoids later today after I get a multimeter, would it be ok to post the results??

He plugged into the right spot. The diagnostic connector is in the passengers foot well. Most scanners will only get P codes. P codes are part of the OBD-II. P codes have to by law be the same for all manufactures. Manufacture codes can not be read by just any scanner. It has to have the ability to talk to that manufacture and they are limited on Land Rovers.

Post the results. You may have to get it to fault to get the results.

I dont know of any 2nd hand ones for sale. I got mine here BA5070 | Hawkeye Diagnostic Tool (http://www.paddockspares.com/ba5070-hawkeye-diagnostic-tool.html).
They are good to deal with. When you get it you need to email Omitec to get the unlock code for they type of Land Rover you require. It can do multiple models. (mine does FL1 FL2 and Disco2). You need to buy additional unlock codes for different models.

You need the Grey adapter to work with security on your FL
BA5077 | Land Rover grey adapter (Teves MK25 EWS 3) (http://www.paddockspares.com/ba5077-land-rover-grey-adapter-teves-mk25-ews-3.html)

The upgrade cable and the power supply for upgrading is up to you. I have had mine for 4 years and there has been 1 upgrade.
