A few people on here have had Opposite Lock bull bars fitted to their RRS on the understanding that these bars are ADR compliant for the RRS.

I have just rang a number of Opposite Lock stores to get a price on getting a bar fitted and all indicate that there is not specific bar for the RRS and they just fit a D3/D4 bar.

When I questioned about the bars being compliant for a RRS they indicated they do not worry about it. Now I understood that modern bars fitted to modern airbag equipped cars had to have a plate affixed which indicates the bar is compliant with the ADRs for the vehicle it is fitted too.

So I am now concerned that these bars may not be compliant for the RRS as compliance has not been sought by the manufacturer and is being fitted by their dealers.

So can anyone with a OL bar fitted to a RRS put up a pic of the compliance plate that should be fitted to the bar. I guess it will be similar to those fitted to tow bars.

Thanks

Garry

Hi Garry,
I've got a piece of paper for compliance from my OL supplier. I think there is a plate.
However I've also got a piece of paper stating the bullbar is not compliant /warranty by landrover. So I'd bet that is a bigger problem. I do have all my paperwork together I'll try and get a scanned copy and post it.

I had the impression from the posts of those fitting the bars, that they knew they weren't compliant, but wanted the bar fitted anyway ?!

Excuse my ignorance, but how does a quality bullbar affect warranty?

I've got an ARB one ordered, still haven't had confirmation that ARB have made it for the MY14 D4, but dealer in Adelaide has booked me in for the install..now upon reading this warranty comment I am a bit nervous...:(
.

EDIT - thanks Firefox for the advice to get LRA approval....in writing.

Ok - Last week I sent this email to the Opposite Headquarters.

"Nature of Enquiry: I have a 2007 Range Rover Sport and am interested in a bull bar. I understood you made one for my vehicle but when I contacted various stores they said that they fitted Discovery3/4 bars. I asked about compliance and they said that compliance plates are not needed. Can you provide me with information how these bars were complied with for the RRS and a copy of the compliance plate for the RRS that would be fitted to these bars. Thanks Garry"

This morning I got this response:

"Hello Garry,
Sorry but our bars have never been complied to be installed onto a Range Rover Sport,
I know some stores have sold and installed the Discovery ¾ bars onto the Range rover but the bar not Airbag compliant.
We do not sell any bar with a compliance plate as such, all our bars are SRS and ADR approved for the 4x4’s they are designed for,
Each bar comes with a sticker on the inside stating the fact they are compatible .
I hope this clears things up for you.

So from this response these bars are not compliant and are probably not legal to be fitted to the RRS - the point about not being airbag compliant is a major issue.

I guess it is up to each owner to make their own decisions on fitment.

Gary i have spoken to the OL team who fitted mine, they were quite :censored: off at the comments that this was not compliant and probably not legal. They stated they would categorically not fit it if it breached ADR and SRS compliance (such an action would be illegal on their part), i think as FF states OL and LR dealerships are happy to state it is compliant, LRA would not be interested as it is not a LR official part sold through their channels.. I have been informed by OL that it is totally ADR and SRS complaint.. and have an email as such stating it. I will follow up with my local LR franchised dealer around the corner from OL and see if they will "certify it" after my return from the cape, so all i can say is watch this space ..

My response is from the Opposite Lock company and they are saying the bars are not compliant for the RRS. I have recommended to them that they need to have a chat with their dealers about this so everyone is on the right page.

The compliance of such a bar has nothing to do with LRA as OL have to convince the regulatory authorities not LRA that is complies. Likewise only the manufacturer not a dealer or franchise can certify the bar.

Note also that there is no bar listed in the OL system for the RRS only for the Discos.

I have looked at this as I want to get a bar, but only if it was compliant. After speaking with my local OL dealer I was not convinced it was compliant so asked the Opposite Lock Head Office and my post is the response. They also sent me a followup email where they indicated that as the L320 is no longer made and there was limited interest in getting a compliant bar for the L320 they would not be getting a D3/4 bar made complaint for the L320.

Clearly the D3/4 fits so I guess it is up to individuals if they want to go the D3/4 bar route.

I spotted this listing on ebay for a RRS bull bar.

Used Boomer Bullbar Range Rover Sport 2005 TO 2008 | eBay

Hideous looking thing.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I have contacted the seller and he said it is a Boomer Bull Bars bar and is definitely for a RRS.

I rang Boomer Bullbars and spoke th the manager who confirmed they make Bull bars for the RRS and he wasn't confused with a D3 or RR but he said non of his bars are air bag compliant. He doesn't think there would be insurance issues as he has checked with two companies but agrees that RTAs may take issue.

Boomer Bullbars BNS Gear (http://boomerbullbars.typepad.com/)

He said it is up to the owners to make their own choices as they are sold without compliance.

So like the other bars - it is up to owners to make their own decisions on whether to fit or not to fit.

That makes them illegal, is it against the law to sell anything illegal and wouldn't that make him liable if anyone is hurt in an accident.

Waste of time fitting an alloy bullbar anyway, one animal strike and it's done, can't repair alloy bullbars.

Bloomin Harold Scruby - self appointed head of a self generated council!
Don't get me started about the time I saw him drive into a car park though the one way exit and then park in a disabled parking spot. I challenged him, his reply who are you, don't you know who I am. Pig he is. I told him to move his car, he ignored me and went shopping. I felt like running down the side of his BMW with my 4wd bull bar.

Worst thing is that the press and tv treat him like he's the head of a large organisation representing thousands of people
