Sockets in rear of D3

Gday...

It is with a very red face that I ask the following question. I have owned my D3 for four years ... and it is only today I have discovered two 'sockets' in the rear compartment (where the 3rd row of seats are) near the 12V ciggy socket.

I have searched the Owner's Manual but cannot find anything that tells me what they are. Inside it looks like a "half-size" USB may plug into it.

Someone has added those, factory is the one above with 12V on the cap, does your car have a second battery?

I forgot to add they are Hella sockets.

They are "Hella Sockets" much better than the standard cigarette plug socket.
It has a better connection and does not get as hot as the standard one.
I use them in my D3 for fridge and lights.

Thanks - yes there is an aux battery installed - with the controller etc in the engine bay. I will therefore assume it was for running a fridge in the back off the aux battery then probably.

Which is interesting - and therefore glad I found em. I have been thinking of lashing out for a small compressor fridge. I had assumed I would run it off the 12V socket ... but if these are for running a fridge off the aux battery I am a happy liddle black duck. :)

Will get a sparky to check it out before I buy the fridge.

Yes, they are also sometimes referred to as Powerlet and Motorcycle Sockets in the EU.

It does depend what type of DBS you have installed. A lot of Disco owners go Traxide which does not quite work the way you describe. The two batteries remain joined and acessories powered out the back run off them until a limit is reached on the crank battery and then the isolator trips.

A bit of a moot point but it's best to understand exactly what youve got before you plug your gear in the back and run stuff oblvious to what's really happening. Informed peace of mind is what you are after, not blissful ignorance. ;)
