Well my GG's gave me a good run (75k) but it's time for a change... so I am going to try a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT 697 (Light Truck construction)... I pick them up tomorrow from my local Bridgestone dealer ($379 ea) and will get them fitted at "Tyrepower Camberwell" sometime next week... "Boof" (Michael) always does a great job plus he's a Land rover man so I know it'll be done properly... I'll let you know how they go after a few trips...
cheers

I assume you are running 18 inch rims. I am thinking of buying the same tyres soon. I will wait for the update.

Hi Old Salt
Good choice, had three sets over two Discos and been very happy with them, not a single puncture 4 wding but 2 from nails 50 m from home ( construction site) nice and quiet and grippy in the wet on tar.

They are a good tyre on my D3. I do find they
Aquaplaned in puddles at 100kms an hour. A light puckering moment

Hope they prove as good as your GG's if the reviews are anything to go by you'll love them

Be interested to see how they go for you. I am considering these when it is time to replace the AT3s. Did you go 265/60r18?
oldsalt
26th June 2014, 08:41 PM
Yep - went with the 265's.
The only two sizes available in 18's are...265/60R18LT & 285/60R18LT
according to the Bridgestone site.
cheers
PS - very happy with them so far ... quiet as mice just sitting in my shed :D heh heh

I can highly recommend these tyres, quiet, excellent grip on and offroad, have done about 5000ks now and I'm more than happy and they are well priced too, I went for the 265/60/18LT also.

Does anyone know how the 285/60R18's fit in the wheel arches???
Any rubbing at full lock???

On D4....yes on full lock, and nearing full lock.
At full articulation it rubs in the rear arch slightly....and rubs a bit harder on the chassis on the front when turning with full articulation.

I thought Mike had left Tyrepower ? I'll be miffed if he's back, having just gone elsewhere for a new set of tyres...

I didn't know that he'd "left" - damn ! ... I'll have to track him down before I get them fitted, anyway the tyres are safely tucked up in my shed and I'm in no real rush to get them fitted... anybody have any suggestions of a GOOD tyre place ? I don't mind where it is - I just want to go to a place that knows what it's doing... unfortunately nowadays a lot of places seem to lack any real skill....too much "she'll be right" attitude...:(

I have his mobile number if you want it, must admit I didn't contact him when I needed my tyres this week as I thought he'd left. From memory he's at a 4x4 place out west next to a Toyota dealership, so it's probably worth contacting him to see if they have fitting facilities.

If you want a guy who knows his stuff on tyres, and knows Discos, go and see Chris at Nunawading Hyundai. Tell him Will sent you. He used to be tyre fitter and aligned at Lance Dixon LR, and has run a number of tyre stores.

Just to go on a tangent a little - why do you have that glass hammer on the rear side of the luggage cage, so passengers are unable to reach it in an emergency?
oldsalt
2nd July 2014, 10:26 AM
Its a requirement (stated on the cargo barrier fine print) to have one fitted to the "inside" of a cargo area in case someone gets stuck in there (somehow) and can't get out.... and with the notorious LR rear door catch I suppose it's not such a bad idea. :)
I have a window breaker/seatbelt cutter fitted in the front of my vehicle which can be reached by both front passengers in case of an emergency...
most people who see it say "ah what do you need that for... never gonna happen" etc etc... well I did have the occasion to use a seat belt cutter many years ago (in a military aircraft crash) - saved my life - and as such I think they are a great idea...

What position does "Chris" hold at the dealer - so I'll know who to ask for when I ring him...?

+1 to above.
I've had one of these for many years. Hope never to have to use it but for the small amount it cost, why not?
Re the cargo barrier. Think 7 seaters. Someone behind the barrier can escape as well if the worst happens.

Sorry letherm but there can be NO passengers seated behind a rear cargo barrier. It is a condition of use and an Australian Standard that must not be ignored. ADRs would be violated by having passengers seated behind a cargo barrier.
To remind the end user there are messages written 'in fine print' on all conforming barriers sold in Australia.

Thanks LeighW. I wasn't aware of that regulation not that I intended to sit anyone there. My last 4wd had a barrier with a hinged perspex panel in the middle that was supposedly there to allow access to the front part of the car. Does make you wonder then why the glass hammer sits behind a barrier to the people who may need it. Back to square one answering the original question :D

Because most modern cars don't have a door handle on the inside of the rear door.

A lot of cars have one piece tailgates that are held up with hydraulic struts. Climb into the back to get something, rear door blows down due to worn struts and you're stuck in there.

All fitted up ... ended up getting them fitted & aligned at Lance Dixon - done "in-house" and all's well... and somebody on here (lives in Plenty ?) said they'd be interested in my old spare GG - your message seems to have been "lost" or "removed" - so if you're still interested send me a PM - failing that I'll put the GG up in the "markets" section.
cheers :)

Heh heh heh ... I know how you feel...there's always some other "thing" to add to your vehicle. Next project for me is a set of drawers for the rear... done the planning & drawing now I just have to get around to making it.
Roof top tent - Black wolf normal tent -awning - water tank - dual battery - fridge - camp seats - chain saw - winch & bullbar ...ahhhh it's only money.... :D I look at it this way - I'm getting my landy ready for some serious camping trips and doing something for the economy at the same time... :D

Hi Guys
Just returned from the Simpson and ran D697's 285/60-18. Absolutely amazing car and tyres no problems and D697's unmarked after 5000+k. I have attached a couple of photos, yes D4 did get dirty and yes we crested Big Red harder climb first time (fully loaded).

A few hours from where I live. For the first time I didn't reduced pressures
For gravel rocky tracks. Got a side wall slice in one of my new D 697.
Doh. Soon reduced pressures with no problems afterwards.
