View Full Version : Educate me please on the 9 seaters

I see plenty of information on the 2 door Perenties. But what's the story on the 4 door 9 seater wagons?
This is ultimately the only configuration that would be useful to me. What is the official title, what is the spec and how many are there for sale or already sold?
Any info appreciated. This is research for a long term project.

Ahhhh I remember saying those exact words too. Then I saw they were selling at the grays auctions for around $20-25k. So I decided to buy a County and deal with it.
I think the number of them made is floating about here somewhere in another thread. Will take a look when I'm not on my phone if no one else replies.

There are two variants of station wagon Perentie; the Personnel Carrier and the Senior Commander. The REMLR pages will tell you all you need to know:
Senior Commander:
Perentie 110 Senior Commander (SC) -REMLR (http://remlr.com/perentie-sc.html)
Personnel Carrier:
Perentie 110 Personnel Carrier -REMLR (http://remlr.com/perentie-pc.html)
Only the Personnel Carrier had 9 seats (to my knowledge), although it was not registered for all 9. The only real difference is that the Senior Commanders have a winch and fittings for radio equipment. I believe all bar one Senior Commander are sold, and the vast majority of Personnel Carriers are too. There were 11 Senior Commanders and 38 Personnel Carriers.

So would that mean the price of the Personnel carriers will go up while the GS goes down due to volume available?

Ah bugger. I was hoping the numbers of 38 and 11 weren't correct.
Clearly the odds of picking one up cheap enough to warrant the work aren't good. The total bill would come close to used D4 money.
I was planning to grab one, put a usable interior and sound insulation into it, fit the MSA gearbox from my rangie (already has a long-stick conversion and LT230 mounts) and turbo it.
Which would be feasible if I could land one here for $NZ10k. But no point for $NZ30k before the work begins.
Other long term options are pick up a 110 locally or dedicating the 300tdi soft-dash rangie to work purposes.

Personnel Carriers and Senior Commanders have been 2.5 - 3 times more expensive than the average GS/FFR. I don't know whether that gap would increase, but I tend to doubt it. There are only a handful left though, so it'll be a very volatile market. Unfortunately Dougal there's no chance anyone will get a wagon for reasonable money - they are collectibles.
If you want a work vehicle, get a GS and slap a cab on it like mine has at the moment. Immensely practical, not as comfy as a Rangie though!

If it was that sort of work vehicle that'd be perfect. But I need a back seat and the 4dr wagon would have been ideal. But since there are such low numbers I'm not going to turn a collectable into something else.

Ooo you lucky bastard! Well I can't talk, I do have a Personnel carrier, but I bet a few people will be jealous!
You should start a new thread and add some more full size detailed photos. I would be curious at the differences between our trucks and I'm sure others would like a proper gander.
Oh hey, want to sell your winch? :D

There's a 9 seat Personnel Carrier for sale now in Sydney.
Private seller. Just noticed it. Been listed for couple days now I think.
Has NSW rego ... and extra seatbelts (allegedly).
Listed as a County, but it's a Perentie.
1988 Land Rover 110 County (http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Land-Rover-110-1988/SSE-AD-2898869)

Only five seatbelts so the rear inward facing bench seats have no belts. Also that second row seat looks broke?

The inward seats in my SC didn't have any seat belts either. When I registered it at vicroads I regd it as an 8 seater. The lady looked in the rear of the car but didn't say anything about the seat belts. I was under the impression that if it didn't come with belts as oem, then they don't have to be retrofitted...can anyone confirm?

Dougal: For all the issues that Dervish mentions, It will be cheaper to find a good condition local Isuzu county, have the chassis dipped and galv'd, and rebuild the LT95 box to LT95a spec. The SC and Carryall are nothing special. A low-spec Isuzu Rover with an uprated gearbox.
Bad co: If that was one from the Qld sale a couple of months ago, then the door frames are in poor condition
walahbro shh, don't tell. Post'73 (IIRC) Person in car= rated seatbelt and mount. You may have the rego slip but it does not comply and you can be fined if you carry anyone in the rear seats on a road or road-like area.

Indeed. But Isuzu counties are rare in NZ. So instead the plan is to rock the 300tdi RRC for a while and see how that goes. Particularly to see if the 300tdi is going to like compound turbos.:D
Longer term considering a 300tdi or TD5 defender. I've already got the 4BD1T RRC as a towing brute.

Does anyone know if all the Personell Carriers have been sold off through the auctions yet?

As BadCo says there is discussion on REMLR about this

I can't find it either, I think the discussion might be a few pages into another thread. Try google then add site:The Registry of Ex Military Land Rovers. Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. (http://www.remlr.com) on the end.

That discussion (about one left and it's an IPV) was talking about Surveys. There is only one SC left, but many PCs. The REMLR website has the ARNs for Perenties broken up by variant now, so you can easily see how much of each is left (if there is a disposal date, it's sold).
ARN - Land Rover 110, Senior Commander (http://remlr.com/ARN/ARN-110-SC.php)
ARN - Land Rover 110, Personnell Carrier (http://remlr.com/ARN/ARN-110-PC.php)

Thanks for that. I will unfortunately have to sell mine soon along with it's trailer and was just wondering on how many left.
