Engine number

Help please
Where is the engine number on the engine found? Engine in military 6x6 .
Looked in all areas as advised on various sites on internet. Engine 3.9 turbo
Any help appreciated

I havn't got a 6X6 but my number is stamped into the block to the left of where the dip stick enters the block. get a torch, its hard to see if covered in crud, there is no machined flat surface it is just stamped into to rough cast iron finish of the block.
