So, I've got a quote to have my caravan parked at a secure lock up with 7 day access from 6am to 8pm. This quote is for an outside space only in the yard. I'll let you know the price a bit later as I just want to gauge if the quote I got is on the money. The Manager of the facility gave a slick speal and gave me a price saying 'that's cheap compared to other local places'

So, does anyone here do this and happy to let me know what you pay (per month) or anyone had quotes for this sort of thing themselves?

Also, anyone thought outside the square here and store their van somewhere like a local business that has room and wants to make a few extra dollars?

Cheers - Gav

Yeah, but I bet it's still more than what I've been quoted. That block and shed is still for sale.... I should call and get a price....

Gav, I would be interested to hear the figures you were quoted as I have a van down in VIC that has not sold so I will be looking at bringing it up to Sydney shortly. We don't have room to store it at our house.

I have thought about putting it in at a nice coastal van park as a holiday point but I need to also look into those costs.

If any one has some info on nice southcoast van parks within a three hour drive of Sydney & the approximate costs of long term holiday leasing I would appreciate the info.

Sorry Gav, didn't keen to hijack your thread.

Regards Chris.

That would be cool climate.
Those tropical people just don't realise they live in a place that's uncomfortably warm, do they Gav.

Ok, the price I was given was $140 per calendar month. They claimed the going rate was $170 a month. I've found some for $100 but it is too far away. Going to keep looking and ask a few businesses in the area that have large under utilised yards if they want a few extra dollars. It's an old van that will have a pintle hook 3 feet off the ground to tow it, so it's not something anyone would want to (or could) steal easily, so I don't need 24/7 CCTV or anything like that. I just want to be able to grab it on a Friday arvo and drop it back on a Monday morning.

Any takers in Sunbury?:D

Agreed. Cool is good, warm and sweaty all year 'round isn't. :)

How do you start your own super fund...? I'm intrigued and interested... Bacchus Marsh is just a bit far if I need it in a hurry.

No only joking, quite simple really, I did leave it to my accountant, but you easier if you are PTY LTD.

Super annoys me, the media give you all this BLAH about people not having enough, its all a scam, so that the government can use your super and you cant, take my advise....DON'T put extra into super unless you can benefit from tax bracks......Put your money into long term high interest account.... you will get a greater return....... PS sorry for hijacking thread!!:wasntme:

And I've just got really enthusiastic about exploring Gippsland :D

Careful Gav,,, I'm sure he's on a mission ;)

Anyone with a large yard of sorts, could be interested in your plight.

Hey, Gav, what about that fellow with that Airstream caravan?
You could park yours next to his.

We have these things called heaters.
They're much like your air conditioners but work in reverse.

Maybe try a truck depot that allow other trucks to park.
I paid $50/month to park a semi with 24hour access with a tag entry($50 deposit).
This was on the edge of my village where the brown trucks are.

I could ask about where I park when at work if it helps.
You know how to get onto me.

ive heard of 4 families that got together and rented a factory to use it for storage for their caravans, boats and other crap they have. Not sure how much a factory is to rent but you could rent one and onsell the rest of the space to other people with caravans or project landies???

What a great idea Gav. I wonder why it hadn't been discussed before?

Geez, don't know why we didn't think of that one....

How many do you think we would need? I'll have to find out what a place is worth to rent...

There's a 12x18 metre shed 2 minutes from your place Mick for $1,100 PCM. Another in Melton for $1,600.

You think we could get 4 of us to cough up $100 a week each for a start then sell a dozen car spots as secure undercover storage for $75 to $100 a month each...

In another life before my business partner decided to have a divorce at the same time as the GFC started, I used to own 2 storage complexes. The quotes your first mentioned sounded on the money 100 to 150 per month. Most self storage places that have van storage have it in areas that they are waiting to develop into self storage units, which over the same floor space will return much more.

I have looked at truck and van storage a number of times, the land is just too expensive to make it happen, in major built up areas. Some people do it as a land bank and sell the land to a developer later on or build something on the land later. The last one I saw like this was a farm before and is now a housing estate. They had about 200 hundred vans in a paddock before it was developed.

There have been some good ideas here about asking people with spare yard space etc. Otherwise, move to acreage. :D
