Has anyone installed an aftermarket DAB+ head unit in their vehicle? I've been looking at the JVC KD-DB70 (http://www.jvc.net/au/car_audio/cd_receivers/kw-db70/index.html), which seems to be about the only 2DIN DAB radio on the market.
What units have people installed? How do they find the sound? Are any special antennas needed?

I put a KDDB56 in my D2 about 18 months ago. The sound is great and the access to more stations is worth it. The AM stations sound like FM sound. The only drawback is the range of the digital signal. I start loosing it just beyond Geelong and when in the tunnels. But for driving around Melbourne I wouldn't listen to anything else. The antenna that comes with the radio is easy to install. It is basically a short wire on tape that sticks to the windscreen. Love my DAB radio.

Kenwood. love Digital AM. Use the KCA 300 BT they sell with it. The head unit sound is excellent.

Can you still receive regular AM & FM on these if you so choose? If not then you can say goodbye to cricket broadcasts now thanks to Cricket Australia. I'll buy one if this can be overcome.

I see you have a D3 - if you are thinking about changing to an aftermarket radio you need to do a search on the issues associated with doing this.

Certainly with the Kenwood, and probably the Sony.

I guess I need to RTFM for my Cambridge Audio hifi DAB+ radio then. Boy was I cursing last summer when I had to pull the transistor out. All the gear and no idea, I guess.

Well thanks guys, hopefully excellent info/news.
Given I've just fitted a new radio without even considering/being aware of this option, I'm off in the morning to talk to my local car radio man about the pros/cons of a DAB+ converter a la the HiTV VIVA or similar. If I get any useful info, especially for Perth and surrounds, I'll start a new post. Most of the local stations already simul-broadcast in DAB+. Maybe I'll finally get some improvement in listening quality for my old fogies preferred 1080 6IX AM equivalent.
PS - D2s etc need the single DIN

Hi,
Am considering fitting a Pioneer AVH-X3600DAB double-DIN complete with the RCAMAVIC reverse camera and the CDML100 Mirror Link (for Android phones), but want to know what adapters I need to connect to the D3's electrics and audio. Do you know someone who would be prepared to advise me on this?
Best Wishes,
Peter

I've also looked at the Pioneer ABH-x3600dab (http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-AVH-X3600DAB-In-Dash-Media-Player-with-DAB-p/avhx3600dab.htm), but I've gone off it. I had a good play with it in the shop and I reckon it'd give me the squits after a while. The volume is controlled by two small up arrow and down arrow buttons that are fiddly, and volume is something you want to control easily and quickly without having to look.
I think it's a poorly designed user interface, and in my view user interface is one of the most important characteristics of a car radio. If it is fiddly them it is a non-starter in my book.
