Seems its going to get a lot more expensive to move into an Aged care facility from July 1.
Aged care reform - Challenger (http://www.challenger.com.au/retire/reform.asp)

Just in the process of moving my Dad to a High care facility and seems he could now be up for the new means tested method.
Seems to be quite a jump in the fee's but I guess we will find out soon.

I would imagine a lot of assets will soon be switching ownership!

Good grief... there basically forcing them to sell the family home. What happens if a wife/husband still lives in the house

Let me guess, they just don't go into care regardless of how difficult it makes matters at home.

Is that actually approved by parliament or one of the proposed changes held up in the Senate?

It was the Nursing home staff that told me that the changes were taking effect from July 1.
The Government website also backs this up.
I have not gone through all the details yet but it does look like they are switching to a means tested approach..
