All, anyone fitted these recently in Oz?

Quoted $450 per tyre, fitted, today in Brisbane - includes the warranty (50000km etc); Looks about right to me (and yes I've seen "$310 per tyre" plus plus (freight, fitting, no warranty, etc) on EBAY but think I will stick with the tyre dealer here given the long term relationship/support received to date on prior tyres and no doubt into the future. I've also accepted slight "speedo error" as I want that extra sidewall offered over the 275/45's. I note the AT3 with 275/55/20 fits too (load 117T) - but thats a much bigger difference with speedo and so the 50 series seem a good compromise with better load rating (116S v 111S) than the 45 series.

The dealer sells Nitto Terra Grappler in 285/50/20 too (load 116S) but slightly more expensive and not as good a warranty I gather.

cheers

Chris

They do seem like a popular choice these days.
What are the details on the warranty the dealer is providing? only wear I presume.

I will be getting Atturo brand soon (another american import) but will be interesting to see how the coopers go

yes, wear - but he has swapped tyres (at Coopers direction) at far less km's after a "failure"(usually off road)

I fitted 285/50/r20 to my RRS but they scrubbed out heavily on the front so had to go back to the 275/45/r20's

I fitted the LTZ on my L322 19inch vogues rims. Currently travelled 12000Km's and very happy with the tyre. A little more noise in the cabin compared to road tyres but worth it if your going off road. Cost $420 per tyre.

Well, bit the bullet and went for the slightly bigger Coopers with slightly higher (116 v 111) load rating (i.e. rather than the 275/45/20 went for the 285/50/20).

Did have to remove the small conical (5mm) plastic protrusion at the bottom of the front struts (each side) < 1 minute job with a hack saw, but otherwise they fit with just enough room. Rear drivers side also a tight fit - but knew all this from owners who have logged threads on the UK "full fat" site.

So, now to try them in "anger" so to speak! Will report back in due course.

cheers

Look forward to your reports Chris! My 275/45/20s have now done a total of (wait for it) 1,200 km before being stored in the garage:)

slightly bigger30% more sidewall height - a worthwhile difference I suspect.

Its actually noticeable on speed humps...or is that my imagination??

I got these shoes on my Vogue. Slightly more noise but huge difference off-road!

I recall the cost was under $400 fitted

I recommend nevertheless!

What pressures did you run them at, off road Dorko? ie on tracks (eg Birdsville, Plenty Highway etc). I assume low 30's at rear if fully laden? maybe 30 at front?

Dorko, is it the Coopers you're referring too and what size did you put on? Sorry, lost my compass in this thread.

gday Chris

How's the 285/50/20s Zeons going?

Im looking at moving to 20" rims as some tyres in this size seem to have better side wall strength than tyres for a 19" wheel.

No issues yet - slightly and I mean slightly -noisier and seem to be wearing well; no issues on sand at 18psi at Straddie; no issues in mud or tracks we have done;

Big test coming up in June school holidays though - 5000 km trip with wife and kids from BNE to Alice / Uluru / East and West MacDonnell's etc and home again via Plenty and Donohue Highways. Oh and towing a 21 foot Bushtracker caravan. That should decide whether both the car and tyres are are up to it .....!:p

Aim is to have Van laden (expect 3300kg) and nothing in the RR other than kids of course. This I hope will keep as much weight as possible off rear tyres; even then I guess we might exceed LR recommended tow ball weight. We will travel with a fridge box/slide but just to use for day trips without the van; the fridge can stay in the van on 12v, whilst towing (fits under dining settee rather nicely).

I will keep everyone updated re tyres .........and CVD shocks !!!!!!

Cheers

I looked at these but the reviews put me off lots of stories of cracking sidewalls & catastrophic failures (blowouts) one guy was on his 3 rd set under warranty. I ended up getting the Pirelli ATR's but got a puncture in the first hundred ks just unlucky was a 60mm self tapping roof screw. No off road yet but noticeably more comfy than the lower profile 50 's previously fitted. Speedo now reading correctly with 55's as well. :)

What size did you fit?

Yep 19's on mine . I read all the reviews for 255 55 19 tyres. I would have prefered something a bit more agressive but after having 2 General Grabbers disentegrate on a trip up Skull Springs Road (East Pilbra ) in the work hilux I kept away from them. I admit i was pushing the work car along over rough terrain but they had less than 2000 ks on them on them & it was only a 400 k round trip.

I've been reluctant to try them in any size after having a pair of a different series steer poorly but am considering the 285/50R20 on a yet to be purchased vehicle. However I'll also have a good look at Nitto Terra Grapplers in the same size.

Worth noting Greg had no punctures with his LTZ 20's on his epic trip in WA (where the CVD shockie failed), and that was towing.

I've spotted that the rear CVD shocks were revised early in the MY11 run from VIN 334343, so probably around Aug10 build and therefore most 4.4s have the later ones fitted.

Hey Guys, I am new to the website. I recently looked everywhere for some decent tyres for the 20 inch rims, ended up going with the Atturo 275x45x20. they seem good after 1500klms. As quiet as the Continentals that were originally on it, hope they wear better though. The Contis only lasted 35000 klms.
I look forward to feedback on the 285's they look very chunky and suitable for offroad???

we are getting mixed reports re the 19's but LTZ 20's seem to be getting a good wrap. I noted one driver (google Cooper LTZ reviews) towed a 3.5 ton 25 foot Jayco Sterling on the Gibb River Road and raved that he had no punctures, no chipping and was very impressed:

We have just come off the Gibb River rd towing a 25' Jayco Sterling caravan approx 3.5t
My Cooper LTZ Zeons never missed a beat ran with 40psi all the way and never hadpuncture 1st time ever my 4th Gibb River every other time had at least one puncture
Coopers are a unbelievable tyre. 10 star from me

So, some good stories out there and I guess we are all keen to hear more stories of the tyre being used "in action".
cheers

hmm, well I'm no.....I've been plugging a few vins into TOPIx of late looking for the elusive "LOCKING REAR AXLE - E DIFF" that shows-up on your one.

350835 here
An updated version of the gearbox started at 347155 and an updated rear crankshaft seal a few before that.
An AMK suspension compressor was fitted between 356347 and 367232 before reverting to the Hitachi, but looks like an AMK was then fitted to the L405. Was LR using-up old stock/quota once the L405 got close? The AMK in my D4 is lasting well compared with the 2 Hitachis it replaced.

Gotten a little OT here...

I just noted you don't get the VIN on Carsales.....I thought you did?...means you are forced to contact each owner individually to get it and confirm Build Sheet on Topix.

What a pain!

I had a quick response from an inquiry late yesterday. It transpired that the VIN was shown on the dealer's web-site advert. However discovering the selling dealer isn't always possible even though the dealer licence number is always shown.

Do these tyres fit in the spare wheel well if fully deflated and perhaps with the valve core removed?
