Looking back at the way things unfolded with the Falkland's it may have been a case of could they not afford it. As it was the carriers they did end up getting were at the end of their life just as things got hot:) People often forget all defence spending is for insurance you hope you will never need:)

When we see HMS, on the front of a navy ship , I assume they are all part of the family of nations , that calls there ships HMS.??? I don't know but I would have thought that collectively if you attack one , you have attack all . Not sure if things have changed , since ww1 ww2 , It's good to see we have good relations with NZ., Canada , and UK. ...

The Invincible Class did their job albeit small. One of them is still in service as a helicopter carrier.

First ever to have the "ski ramp" which has been copied by everyone else.

The new Queen Elizabeth class look impressive although I understand there is still no suitable aircraft for them yet.

The world's carriers



US: 11, with one under construction
Russia: One, the Admiral Kuznetsov
UK: One, HMS Illustrious which only carries helicopters - two under construction
China: None but is thought to be building several
France: One, the Charles de Gaulle
India: One, the Viraat, formerly known as HMS Hermes, but converting another, the Admiral Gorshkov, into the Vikramaditya. A third is under construction
Italy: Two, the Giuseppe Garibaldi and the Cavour
Brazil: One, the Sao Paulo
Thailand: One, the Chakri Naruebet

Some countries (like Australia and the US) hide their aircraft carriers as LHD,s:)
