Where did ya get the gas bottle holders from?

Vin Rouge
10th July 2014, 07:16 PM
The gas bottle holders are home made. They're pretty simple really, just a 20mm square steel frame, some bar and angle. Bending at 45 degrees was done using a home made tool and there was quite a bit of cutting and filing. The technical bit - welding - was done by one of the AULRO members (I don't have either the skills or equipment).

If you're anywhere near Brisbane I still have the wooden formers and will happily pass them on.

G'day Carl,
The tyres are 315/75R16 KM2's on 16X8 -25 offset rims.
Marketed as 35" however in reality they are approx 34 & 1/4".

These are not my normal tyres on this vehicle and were only put on to see if they would fit under articulation without rubbing, this tyre and wheel set is off my daily driver (another 90).

My standard wheel/tyre set for the 2013 model 90 is 16X7 sawtooths with 235/85r16s Goodyear MTR that came with the vehicle when I bought it.

Regards,
Mike.

That wouldn't be the old Rozelle tram shed by any chance? Figured it'd been pulled down by now.

Well spotted!

Yes, it is the old tram shed, and no it has not been pulled down.
The tram shed is heritage listed, apparently it will be transformed into shops for the Mirvac Harold park redevelopment.

The old Harold Park pace way & grandstand has gone and is being replaced by apartments and a lot of open parkland.

In the background of the photo is the one remaining tram left in the tram shed,
I believe that some of the trams that were there are going to be refurbished/restored for use as coffee shops.

I have been told that a historical tram society restored one of the trams, only to have it trashed, broken, burned & graffitied by scum bags.

Here is another picture of the 90 (hopefully it comes out better than the previous pics).

Sorry, I don't know how to post the pictures in a bigger format from my iPad.

Regards,
Mike.

Here is my latest 90 as I picked it up in April 15;

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/05/596.jpg

Had a new billet wheel turbo, bigger radiator, custom intercooler, remap, ATB diffs, water watch, 1" lift, exhaust and Maxxi caps, 285/65/18 KA02 tyres and 18*9" rims fitted last week.

Went in today for new ARB front bar, Avenger winch, ARB LED spotties, UHF, Safari snorkel, & towbar, with Ridjidij wheel carrier, Mulgo side steps, diff guards getting fitted later this week, then sound proofing and rear drawer setup installed the second week of June, followed by remote canister Fox shocks shortly thereafter.

Will post some new pics later this week.

Spent four days in the Alpine National Park including a very wet Thursday. Came home looking a lot grubbier than these pics, but nothing that $24 at Car lovers couldn't fix!

The 90 never struggled for a minute and climbed up and down the hardest tracks we managed to hunt down, including some VERY chopped up stuff. Had a VERY nervous girlfriend a few times, but never any issues, and amazingly low levels of wheel slip given the condition. Must say, i was a little apprehensive about the 18" wheels and new KA2 All-terrain tyres and was about to pull the pin on a similar set of wheels in 16" which I was going to put a decent set of muddies on for just this sort of use - suspect I won't bother now.

I did have an issue with the traction control on the last day though. Pulled the ABS fuse to enjoy an uneventful return home. Not sure what the issue is yet, but will have it checked out later this week.

We ended up opposite you in the camper trailer and red Dmax. We also had the folding trailer with the fishing kayaks.

We were originally up the other end of the overflow but moved due to having 5 chain smoking Russians opposite us who smoked pretty much from 7.00am in the morning right through the day until about 1.00am in the morning.

I asked for those mudflap when I made up my list of add ons, not in anyway trying to make it look like a Heritage just like them and wanted to be different.

Landybitz fitted there nice looking sidesteps and a genuine NAS rear step yesterday, far better than that little springy thing. Just now deciding on what front lamp guards to fit, don't want a huge bullbar want to keep it as is at the front.

The only down side is the rear seats don't recline, not sure how thats going to go on a long journey. oh and the side flares seem very flimsy.

I've found a simple solution. No Passengers!
That being said, the rear seats aren't that uncomfortable. worst part is that you look straight into the horizontal pillar, and don't get much of a view unless you are a midget.

Side flares are tough enough. I've only managed to tear a bit of mine when I got it snagged on a tree root... but that was because it was pinched against the bull bar...

Yes forward vision is strange sat in the back seats, if you a tall, or very tall like my son then you don't get to see much. Leg room is ok, but I will really need to get something for 8 bags of shopping to stop rolling about.

Here's mine that I picked up today. Had Dick Cepek Fun Country's fitted to it with almost no fouling surprise! Tad bit of rubbing on full lock so will adjust them tomorrow. Handles a lot better with the 285's.

Got the sound pack, half leather, sun roof and side steps. Very happy!

Not sure if this is a silly question, but my side sills are not painted, I have looked at other Defenders and they are all painted. Is mine wrong ?

That strip is galvanised.
You can also buy some fancy stainless steel door threshold strips from YRM and other companies to dress that area up.

Or for those with too much money, maybe these could be an option...
Don't look at the price of these if you have a weak heart...

After many trips through the "water crossing" at the Adventure Circuit at the Victorian 4wd Show this is the result. A bit of work cleaning up but nothing too dramatic and I had a great day as it seemed did my passengers on the day.

And having a 110 wagon, you'll have a different seat box, with different width and different seat belt mount area than a 90....
All the 90's that I can recall have had a galvanised strip there, maybe some of the later ones are painted, but I haven't noticed it.
