Well,, I'm a very happy little vegemite tonight :D
As some of you are aware, I had problems with water in my fuel, thus, Injector problems :(
Well, tonight, after 8 full weeks, I picked up my baby from the shop :D
The problem started prior to leaving for SA over the Easter break. Changed the fuel filter, which was very dirty, and also had a sort of gel matter in it too. Once changed, the car ran a better, so we decided we'd go to SA. However, pulling up the big hill just out of Bacchus Marsh, the problems returned.
As we were meeting Kyle (alien) and Phil and Liz, we decided we'd get to the meet point just up the road and make a decsission there.
We cleaned the MAF sensor and checked a few other things, and so we chose to go to SA with the guys :D
The car played up a bit, but seemed to be "ok" on the whole
We had a ball with our friends cruising through the desert, but once out on the main roads again on the far side,, trouble started again,,, with a vengence
So, as we left our friends at Burra, we decided we would push on, but we would seek help in Adelaide, but being the day before easter, this was not going to be an option. So, the next thing was to track our original plan and head down to Port Lincoln, where we could call in and see the Landy dealer there, as he would be there all day Saturday. Off we go.
Past Mike (Tombie) on the way :arms: :D , get down to PL and into the Dealer we go. He cant find the issue other than he cant get the ECU Pilot program to track the injectors . So off we head, but not before he let us test drive another 2011 DC Puma which had been chipped,,,,, woohoo, what a buzz :D I'll leave now, feeling very dejected :(
So, we just take our time and ceuise around, slowly heading back to Adelaide where we get to the Dealer there. They look at it all day and work out some sensor is reading 60* all the time, so no good, but they dont have a replacement. They offer to deal with it all the way, as in warranty work thats needed as well, but logistics prove to be a nightmare. We will just drive back home and give it to the dealer here to work with.
So, when I get to the dealer here,, not where I actually bought the car from, but another ;) , and tell them all the things that are wrong, including the fuel problem.
All the warranty work was delt with within the first week, but the injectors, pump, sensors and ECU, have taken the whole 8 weeks to deal with.
We have been very lucky with the RACV, we have full comp insurance and Total Care as well. They have covered all expenses incurred along the way, we could have also had a hire car for the full time, but as we had access to one we decided to forgo the extra expence that would have just cost the RACV more, and of course then premiums go up for every body,,
Anyways,, this is epic enough. I'll right up a report of all the work done in my build thread shown in my siggy,,,
Most importantly,,, GOD I LOVE MY CAR :D:cool:
Cheers all,,, check your fuel filters regulary,, ;)

Great news Marcus, so it was fuel related in the end? It seemed at one stage that they were running out of ideas?
So, Wombats a goer and Leeanne is coming...?:D

I forgot to say too,,,
From what I can work out, the Very first job they did when it hit the shop, was move the fuel breather to up inside the rear tailight cover :o
Makes you wonder.

I was just getting used to you walking around kicking the little stones on the ground and mumbling to yourself.
What was it... "I just want my car back".
Good to hear it's all a go now.
Guess we'll see you at the AULRO Winter Wombat in a few weeks from now:D

Well, I was happy, have just arrived in Wodonga, the fuel lights just come on at 450K's ,,,, not happy Jan.
I'll see how it goes, but when we get back to Melb, it'll be going back to them to see why. I'll check in the daylight to see if I can see any leaks, but anyway,, still glad to be in her.

haha,, my "fuma" is using so much fuel at the moment its not funny. Have just arrived back from my home town (Albury/Wodonga) doing about 370clicks, and used 3/4 of a tank of fuel :censored:
I'll be speaking with LR tomorrow.

Well, the cars been back to the dealer this week to see why it's using so much fuel and lacking power.
They have tested it on they're equipment and even test driven driven it, and reckon there's nothing wrong with it,, they can't fault her.
So, I will write down and record all my observations and take it back to them later to see what they think. (Before end of warranty)
Two tanks at 14+/100 is ridiculous. I have to use the tent a couple of times over the next few weeks, but when that's done, I'll rip everything off the car and check some more. I don't believe it will make any real difference, but stand to be corrected if it is the case.
Not happy,, and Leeanne's even less impressed. This was supposed to be cheaper to run than the D2 V8 Auto. Since the first ECU has been replaced, the V8 wins,,, and of course, Leeanne was a lot more comfy in the D2.

Ummm,,, No
But I think if Leeanne had her way, we would seriously look at a D4

I hope it works out for you. I'll be curious to see your findings after pulling everything off and drive around a bit :BigThumb:

Chops,
Any idea where you got your bad fuel from:
Main Servo
Bush Servo
Jerry cans
I ask as i am try to choose between a Mr Funnel and a in line filter, (and avoid warranty hassles)

hehe,, Cobber, no such luck as getting a D4,,, way outta my league
I got the Deefer so I can bolt on everything I want etc ;) Looks a bit wierd bolting stuff to the outside of a nice looking D4.
Andy,
My personal belief after everything I've seen in the last few weeks, is that its come in from the Fuel Tank Breather. The main reason I say this, is because the first job LR did when the car went in, was to move the breather up in behind the rear tail light cover, up inside the ute body
Although I have used Jerry Cans quite frequently, I dont think water has gone in from them, although when the filter was changed, there was paint bits from the cans in there. So the filter has done its job as far as thats concerned. The guy that changed the filter was pleased to see this, (at a Ford dealership).
So, when I get the chance, I'll be fitting another inline filter to act as a Pre-Filter, probably 10 micron. It'll also have a water alarm attatched as well.
When all this is done, I dont think I will have any more issues in the future.
It suprises me that LR dont have a water alarm fitted as standard as the Defender is more likely, due to the nature of its build purpose, to be in contact with a "water ingress" situation.

Thanks for that, and you did mention that earlier.
A good thing to check that breather.
The in line filter with a water trap is ultimately the best solution methinks. Have you priced any up? They seem to vary from $80 - $500 with no apparent reason :o

I have organised to get a second hand unit through here which is off I believe a D2 TD5 (?)
I can clarify that later when I actually get it.

My Td5 D2 has a water in the fuel warning light, I'm astounded they wouldn't have fitted such a feature to a later model.
Good luck getting it sorted :)

Well, got the car back last Thursday night,,,, thanks to Chris (Toppa) for driving me up there to pick it up :D
Speaking with the dealer guys, they tell me the car is perfect,, drives well, and they cant explain whats wrong. They have hooked up all they're equipment etc, and nothing can be found to tell why its using so much fuel, and has "apprently" lost power. (its almost as if they dont believe me) :(
So, needless to say, on the way home I had experienced no difference in how she behaved, as in, losing power on hills etc that previously I've gained power travelling up. :(
I have told the dealer I will put through a few tanks, and document all the figures, then return her to them later.
So, yesterday saw us travel down to a party at Tonimbuk Hall for the night, approx 50 minute trip (Freeway mostly). Travelling with us was Shane and Deb (disco3door). During that trip, Leeanne and I noticed the car seemed to be running really well. This was confirmed when we hit a hill, and we powered on up in 6th gear :D overtaking another vehicle in the process. Travelled the same on the way home,,,, a total pleasure to drive :D 1st and 2nd still seem a bit short, but the rest seems fine.
It seems something has changed somewhere, but I have no idea what it is.
I will keep the figure I get over the next few weeks and see just how we go.

Without detracting from your thread I have this exact same problem with a 2013 Suzi Grand Vitara. Intermittent heavy fuel usage and a car which is sluggish and needs a lot of accelerator. Feels like the brakes are locked on. I am going through the same motions as you with the dealer except the dealer guys do believe me even though their diagnostic tools tell them nothing is wrong..
I will watch your progress with great interest. Good luck.:D

That's an excellent suggestion.
Check the brakes aren't sticking.
High fuel use and crap performance....... Sounds like a winner :)

I wish it were something that easy :( I have checked them, nothings getting hot or anything.
But as I said earlier, it's looking good at the moment, so we'll see how it goes over the next few weeks.
