Hello All,

The Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2012 found out that on average Queensland drivers travel more kilometres per year. Tasmanians drive the lowest average kilometres per year. The last figure highlights how dependent Australia is on road transport for our goods.

The Australia Bureau of Statistics in their article 9208.0 - Survey of Motor Vehicle Use, Australia, 12 months ended 30 June 2012 found that Vehicles registered in Queensland travelled the highest number of average kilometres (14,900 kilometres), while vehicles registered in Tasmania travelled the lowest number of average kilometres (11,600). Of all vehicle types, articulated trucks had the highest average kilometres (83,000). Accessed 10th of July 2014 from 9208.0 - Survey of Motor Vehicle Use, Australia, 12 months ended 30 June 2012 (http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/9208.0)

How many kilometres do you drive in your Land Rover in an average year and what state/territory do you live in? How old is your Land Rover?

Kind Regards
Lionel

Probably has something to do with Tasmania having a much smaller area than Queensland.

Yep, if Tasmanians drive far, they fall off the edge of the world. :D

And kms in the last year in Land Rover(s)?

About 10.

Not thousands, just ten.

About 15-16000. Of that on average 5000 of it is touring so about 10,000km per year of commuting and daily driving.

Depends on which vehicle we take, 3,600 in the 101 this year, more than that in the 130, as it is our usual touring vehicle. And the several short trips we take in the series vehicles :D I would say 10,000 plus every year. And that doesn't count the several trips we have had touring Tassie :D

28116.8 on average (I use a fuel log app which works it out for me :p )

I'm in WA, wife uses the Disco everyday doing about 50-60km, the rest is from weekends & camping trips.

This is in a 2003 Td5 Discovery.

Hello All,

According to Geoscience Australia, Tasmania's mainland coastline is 2833 km long, Accessed July 10th from, How long is the coastline of Tasmania (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_long_is_the_coastline_of_Tasmania)

The Australia Bureau of Statistics, mentioned in my earlier message, states that Tasmanian Registered Vehicles on average travel 11,600 kilometres per year.

This works out that an "average" Tasmanian drives around their main island 4.094 times per year. :)

Kind Regards
Lionel

Hello Mrs HH,

I can squint the bottom line of your message. Yes, your thought is absolutely correct too.

I was going to find out the perimeter of Queensland is, or how long the straight section of the Gun Barrel Highway is but people would think I am a bit sad!

I won't do it now :p

However, this site - AULRO has contributed greatly to maintaining my sanity. Even though the level might be a really low one

Kind Regards
Lionel

I've averaged 34,000 kms a year for the past 6 years in my Freelander 2 and it has never broken down or left me stranded anywhere. It's actually a tough little mongrel.

We average around 35,000ks a year, bit down from our first year of ownership of the D4, racking up 42,000ks, a little health scare stopped us from getting a higher average.

Not that it relates to Aussie stats but I have done 104,000km in five years of daily driving and trout fishing / camping trips in an older 1984 110 cab chassis flat deck now HCPU.

Like Tassie, NZ is not a large place to drive around in at approx. 2,000 end to end and 650km at its widest or thereabouts.

Close to 35K a year, and so far in over 2.5 years of owning the Puma, it's done just on 84K, and has been off the road for the last 9weeks.

Up to Albury again tonight,, that'll be another 1000 clicks by Sunday night :D

I've had the D4 for two and a half years now (time flies when you're having fun) and it's in for a service today at almost 80,000km - so an average of 32,000 per year. That includes one return trip to Tassie last year, and a lot of trips between Perth & Kalgoorlie.

I've got a FL2 HSE again as a loan car today Pat. Brilliant little wagon. It's a white one and parked under the office where I normally park the D4. The boss (who has also recently traded his D3 in on a new D4) came in this morning and asked if I'd left the Discovery out in the rain overnight. :p

We're seriously thinking of one for SWMBO to replace the Camry.

My Freelander 2 has had a very hard life. It's done a lot of difficult tracks like Mt Pinnibar and Billy Goats Bluff in the Vic High Country, the Border Track, everywhere in the Flinders, Corner Country and the Simpson Desert. I lost an ABS sensor on the Warburton Crossing track because of some really horrible mud issues and it still drove out and 2000kms back to Sydney with every warning light on the dash.
It's the only "4wd" that my wife has liked travelling in. They have a few well known issues that need to be attended to while under warranty.

Our Deefer is barely used at the moment, maybe 2000km a year at the most. The D4 about 10000km a year.

My 2001 D2 TD5 averages around 8,500 per year, over the 4 and a half years I've had it.
Its either parked out the front because I'm riding my motorcycle, driving to work - crap inner west Sydney trip because its raining. Or out having an adventure off road at the weekends - yee hah.
She does most things well and some things very well, it would be hard to know what to replace her with when the time comes

40 000km over 2 yrs (much greater proportion t he past 8 months vs the time before that due to a shift change and no longer able to car pool), and that will end up being over 36 000 + km annually moving forward in a V8.. not on lpg...

Hello P38A Rover,

Maybe I should have asked how many kilometres do you ride on your Yamaha XJR1300 per year? :)

The tyres on the P38a would hardly get warmed up this year!

I'd probably do even fewer km on the bike except for the fact it's pretty much only ridden on long rides, i.e., > 300km. It gets ridden less than once a month.

15,000 a year in my 2012 Defender 110. About half of that is touring with a couple of 1000 on non sealed roads/off road. He goes in for his two year service(29,000km) on Monday. I am in ACT but most of the touring is in SA (Flinders Ranges) and getting there and back.

I'm surprised! I've done just on 5,000 km on the bike since I bought it back in Sept last year, 4,000 has been clocked up this year. I rarely ride the bike. I can't be bothered suiting up for a ride to the shops or similar.
