Had a watch tonight while assembling Ikea furniture. Went straight to episode 2, will watch the first one later.
Interesting watch, and very simpathetic to the original processes and some interesting side bar interviews as well.

They auction all the vehicles off at the end with some surprising results.

I watched it and liked it as well - don't like the man presenter though but is bearable.
Is being repeated right now on ABC 1.
I always thought the Mexico had the Lotus Twin Cam engine but clearly is just the worked 1600cc Kent engine.
Nice show.

Have just been in contact with a mate in the UK who is restoring a Triumph Stag and was discussing 'For the Love of Cars'.
It's not bad for a TV show but he commented how some things seemed to be staged (like the breakdowns). Plus it would be great to see the whole restoration and, of course, the true costs.
Ant Anstead has a company that make replicas, sorry they 'build cars to clients specification inspired by a generation of iconic marques'
Evanta Motor Company (http://www.evanta.co.uk/)
Not bad for a TV show produced for the masses (better than some of the American offerings).
My mate said there is a car based 'renovation rescue' program starting soon (he's putting his name in the hat to try & get the Stag finished !).

I watched the first episode about the Escort Mexico, & I was impressed about the fact that they have tried reasonably well to restore it "as original", unlike some other shows that just "make 'em look nice".
So, as We'll be away in Gracie (our Defender!) for a few days, I'll definitely be recording the L.R. episode.

I've moved threads from Series I, Series III, D3/D4/RRS, Gen Chat, etc. so there'd still be multiple posts no matter where it was. I have left expiring redirects with every move.
People look in only their area of interest and don't look anywhere else so they only post in that area - even if the subject matter has nothing to do with their vehicle of interest.

No early 80s were colour coded.
The show clearly thinks that a Series 1 landie and is the 80" - 86 and 88" series 1s must be something else.
At the end they said that only 300? series 1s remained which is clearly wrong.

The Stag episode. Once again, for the same reason, disappointing,..too much waffle, & not enough about the actual "RESTORATION" of the Stag.
What about the state of the original body,..only very sparce info as to where all the rust was, & even less as to how it was repaired,...what did they do to the engine?.....nothing on the trans, brakes, suspension etc, and what about the trim,....how did it get changed from brown to black?...No details.
I'll still watch the Series, but I think the actual restoration "work/process" could be a lot more explanatory.

Unfortunately while many of us might like to see more of the technical details of the restoration process, the show is obviously not intended to be that sort of show.
It is primarily intended to be entertaining and only a minority of people would be entertained by the sort of detail that some of us might want.
I thought it was interesting about the Stag cooling system. The show made a point of demonstrating that the cooling system was perfectly adequate.
The only thing I knew about the Stag before watching that show is that a friend of mine who owned one could not drive it up the main street of Tamworth without it boiling.
Like many others here, I would be interested in a bit more technical detail, but I know I am not going to get any more of that sort of detail, because that is not the focus of the show.

I would have liked then to discuss why the Stag was built with the T bar rather than a conventional convertible - it spoilt the looks of the vehicle.
The reason was not strength - that could have been incorporated into the body but rollover protection. The world was going safety conscious at the time and there were rumours that the US was going to ban all new fully convertible cars so British Leyland hedged their bets with the Stag. Note initially there was no open XJS or TR7 - other notable cars being developed in the UK at the time - it was only after the rumours did not happen that open TR7s and XJSs were built.

The TR7 one was really interesting. I always assumed it was the old 3.5 buick/rover V8 in the triumph. Fancy them making there own. It sure does sound the part though.
It'd be nice if they put more time into showing us how the car was restored and repaired. They brush over probably 1000hours of labour on the car itself in maybe 90seconds of camera time.
There bodywork/paint guys sure are spectacular. I did think they'd blown up that rebuilt V8 on the dyno though.
seeya,
Shane L.

The Triumph TR8 did not use the 3.0l Triumph V8 but used the Rover 3.5l V8.
As far as I am aware the only car to use the 3.0 Triumph V8 was the Stag.

Thanks for that.
It is a shame that the ABC did not explain that when they advertised the MGTC episode for this week a few days back. I doubt it is a scheduled break as it is halfway through the series and episode 5 was advertised for tonight - something else has happened at short notice.
Cheers

'Scheduled Break' sounds more like: 'We put this on at Prime Time and it is rating poorly, so let's tell everyone it will be on later in the year and maybe they will forget about it'. If it was rating well it wouldn't have been dropped.
What I don't understand is, ABC has multiple channels. If you want to dump it, shove it on ABC2 in the middle of the night instead. Or plonk it on iview.
Or perhaps they just lost the Betamax tape that they had the show stored on...

All episodes are available on Youtube,
I watched them all before they came to air on ABC,
6 cars and last episode is the auction of them all.
MGTC
Stag
DMC
Ford Escort (mexico?) series 1
Mini Cooper
Land Rover S1.
Episode 7 - auction.
Great series.

Am I losing (more of) my marbles, or has For the Love of Cars suddenly disappeared out of the programming schedule? I was watching and recording it, they were half way through the series, and suddenly I can't find it. Has it been moved? Cancelled? Encoded so only poms can see it? Anyone know?

Well, I just used the annoying new post summary thingy at the top of that thread to scan through it and I still don't know what's happened to the free to air broadcast of it. Guess I'll be on YouTube.

Thanks for that, I missed it.Sorry.
How dumb is that though running half the series and then having a break. How do these TV channels ever expect to build up audiences when they butcher shows like that? Its like the way the dills at Ch. 9 ruined the audience for Top Gear which had been built up by SBS.

I've got a copy of the whole series on my phablet for watching on my travels. I've watched the first three series so far - makes me very nostalgic having grown up in the UK (son of a garage owner).
I wonder if the ABC or SBS would commission an Aussie equivalent - that would be great I reckon. The format is very transferable - assuming the presenter isn't a muppet.

I found the break annoying to, all the networks do it. I normally series link them on Foxtel IQ so the box picks it up if it comes back on and I miss it. I saw the Landy episode but missed the first Escort episode. I did catch the Auction the other night though, some very good results.
