I happened to be under my Disco 4 recently and noticed two large weights.
They are at the rear just inside the bumper on either side and appear to swing freely.
What are they for?
Cheers.

NVH - harmonics..
Often affectionately referred to as it's "balls"

That's it. You remove them to turn the car into a Freelander.

What happens if you only remove one?

The words of the old WW2 song come to mind:
"Hitler has only got one ball"
So possibly you get a BMW X5:-D

Harmonic balancers, remove and theoretically more vibration!

Read this a little time ago on another forum. More like a design fault/fix.

That sounds uncomfortable. May I suggest a pair of snug fitting underpants instead? :D

Possibly some kind of strap or rope may be more appropriate ... :lol2:

Let me know how you go.
On the Disco of course, I don't want to hear about any other swinging weights :)

Read that before, and I say what a load of bollocks.
There is a target level of performance, vehicle testing to the level mentioned in that thread doesn't get down to "a couple of months before production"
And the crap about "Range Rover Sport" rear ends if they couldn't sort it - funny. The Range Rover Sport has them too...
They are simply NVH resonance damping.

I'm pretty sure there were some on my P38's as well, so not that new a technology.
