SWMBO 50th is upon me so i notice that every time we go away swmbo grabs my camera and loves taking pics the camp scenery ect .

I get this brain storm ooh buy her a DSLR twin lens Nikon all good me thinks .
Well the proverbial hit the fan it has caused me nothing but heart ache

She hates hi tech stuff and hates reading manuals for days on end as she finds it hard to sink in swmbo tells me .
Id love this camera but i dont want to be accused of buying her a gift for my self :(
Looks like a cheap camera going on flea bay :censored:

Yep I'm hearing ya, D2 takes us everywhere off road no problems, buy a D3 and it becomes SWMBO car and only a few medium tracks, says if I want a serious 4wd buy another D2 ( with my $$ of course) . take the D3 down the Gibb river highway, SWMBO scratches the car and now it's just a 4wd.

The $$ I saved up are now OUR $$ for our next holiday.

We wouldn't have them any other way:wasntme:

Cheers Ean

Rangieman,

It's pretty simple to set up the nikons into a point and shoot mode. Set that up for her, and then gradually gradually she might explore the other options?

But if it's a D810 you got her, forget it and I'll buy it (the camera) off you cheap!

Oh its a d3200 .
But the camera a side .
Thinking you know someone is just silly:angel:
I should have known from my experience of 20 years of marriage that ended in one big horrible mess cause i thought i knew the one i loved:cool:

Something my old Grandfather drummed into me early in life after I had a bust up with a girlfriend I was pretty keen on.
" Women - love them, live with them etc etc, but NEVER ever ever try to understand them!"

You are not responsible for others' reactions... hang on to it, use it and ask her if it's ok to borrow her camera:angel::wasntme: seriously! then ask her occasionally to take some pics with you in them with the Landy...(having set it up prior)....then curiosity will get the better of her and she'll ask you what this and that does...etc... compliment her on the photos etc... softly softly and all that:angel:

EDIT: perhaps, just perhaps, she may have been dropping hints about what she would like as a present... and it wasn't a camera... hence the reaction... Rule 1: as your marriage grows in years.. you have to listen harder and strategize :-)

What would you like for your birthday love?

Nothin' , I've got everything I want....I don't want any more jewellery....I don't want perfume or sexy undies.

Happy Birthday Love as he hands her a card....

Is that all I got? Just a card?

First available opportunity, dial inter flora for urgent flower delivery.

Flowers arrive amid smiles etc.

How much did they cost?

$xxx.....

What a waste.....why spend so much money on flowers.

my old bush mate "trucker" calls them 'funny cattle'.....I nod knowingly.

Well I would like to say from my female point of view....I think your missus is bloody ungrateful!!! and doesn't sound like she deserves such a nice (read expensive) present.

However something also tells me that perhaps she does like the camera but was maybe giving you hints for something else she wanted for her BD which you possibly never picked up on and maybe she got her hopes up thinking she was getting something else...so perhaps the disappointment is not in the camera its self but in the fact she may of been expecting something else???

There are 2 undefeated things left in this world

1. Father time

2. Women

:D

Dude I work with has a saying, he is 63yo old, worked on the international circuit for 4 decades, he says women, you will never make sense of them and you can't **** them to death:angel:

G'day Rangieman,

Times like that it is best to sit back and chill to a master -
No Woman no Cry

Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right!
I said, everything's gonna be all right-a!
Everything's gonna be all right!
Everything's gonna be all right, now!
Everything's gonna be all right!

It's taken me almost 66 years to work out that a good woman will make you think you are in charge, while doing the heavy lifting in family life. If you find your soul mate, do what it takes , happy wife, happy life. Don't try to understand them, you'll ruin the mystique. VIVA LA DIFFERENCE! Bob

Actually this comment shows me how lucky I am to have Ian...

because he buys me the BEST presents and I never ask for what I want..but he always gets me what I want or what I need..occasionally he goes out on a limb and takes a chance. never got it wrong yet.

So why can he do it and not you? possibly because he listens and is attentive to the things I want. Its funny because I'm pretty sure he is not a mind reader either;)

Why don't you ask her if she would like to go a on a short introduction camera course to help her learn the basics of the camera...she wont regret going to it I can assure you

Actually it's not that hard but it involves listening and observing and clear thinking, and not jumping to unwarranted conclusions. You can even use your newly evolved clear thinking skills to fix your Land Rover.:p

as a woman as well, i must say i think she is being mighty ungrateful! and downright difficult if not even wanting to do a course! if someone bought be a camera boy id be really happy! even if i had no idea how to use it! i guess all you can do for now is put it on point and shoot, set it up with auto focus and let her get used to it? when she sees how nice the landscape photos she is now taking just with those settings, hopefully a change of tune happens? other than that i really do not know what you can do :( its this reason pretyt much most of my mates are males! i am a woman and i give up with women! get sick of their difficultness, the nagging, and the lack of cool stuff they do. i dont care for handbags, or shoes or what clothes are in. give me mud, 4x4, animals, video games, cars, planes etc any day, guys are just so much better to get along with! (ive always been one of the boys really though)
and the whole dropping hints thing? LOL that never works on anyone male or female haha.if you want something specific for your birthday, say it! LOL(ive asked for tools this year, or what ever was to be spent to be as the cash instead so i can buy the bits i need for the disco!)
sorry not much help to you! but good luck :)

I once asked SWMBO what she wanted for here Birthday?
She said, Nothing, I'm fine & we don't want to spend money.
When I got her exactly that (Nothing) I was in the bad books for weeks, in fact it still comes up from time to time.
I still can't work it out. She got what she asked for?

BTW Lesson learned, even taking her to the hairdresser is better than "Nothing".

The missus is a motorbiie mechanic by trade. I attribute this fact to the reason we get along so well. Being a diesel mechanic myself, we both think practically - mostly - and are usually on the same wavelength. Before we married, when we had been dating for a while, I asked her mother what I shouldget her for Christmas. MILs response was "something shiny, and nice to look at"
I bought her a sidchrome socket set and a set of fancy LED taillights for her holden ute. She loved both presents. MIL still shakes her head at this.
