FUD - Female Urinating Device - aka SheWee/P-Mate/Go-Girl etc
According to my lovely wife, when it comes to camping I should be very thankful that I was born with my he-wee, and don't have to drop my trou just to pee.
So I've suggested that maybe she try one of these FUD's. She's not 100% convinced, but with an Africa trip happening next year she's thinking it might be a better option than daks-down in the dark with wildlife close by.
Interested to hear from any women out there that use them or have tried them in the past.
What do you think - are they any good? If so - are any brands better than others?

My wife got put onto the She Wee version after talking to some seasoned rooftop campers.
The hint passed on was to practice using it in the shower before camping.
I walked away at this point but one was purchased not long after this conversation.
It was hard to find at the time but I see Ray's now stock them.

Thanks. Had seen that Ray's stock them. Surprising there's not a direct online store like the NZ one.
I'm assuming its continued to be a useful piece of camping equipment?

i have never used one, but your wife is correct, you blokes do get it so easy when it comes to camping and toilet stuff! I would rather a toilet tent, and a portable toilet or at least one of those toilet seats and you jusdt dig a hole underneath. but the portable toilets can be very small these days! But as that would be hard to lug around over in africa, i owuld probably try one of the she pee things too. would take a bit of getting used to. as mentally we are not wired to do that standing up! a very unnatural feeling. i know of some women who once get their heads around that, they love the freedom it gives them! much easier than squatting pants down haha!

so if you are in a roof top tent you still have to get out and down, I certainly don't pee out the door
to use one of these you still have to drop your dacks so why not just squat as you're out of the tent anyway

My wife and I have spent many a night in rooftop tents in Africa, she uses a 1 litre yoghurt container and places it outside the tent on a platform. i just empty it in the morning. You don't want to be climbing down in the middle of the night. My trailer fridge ( on the drawbar) has bite marks from a Hyaena that tried to open the lid while we were sleeping above. A Hyaena standing on it's hind legs looks pretty enormous from a few feet when you're half asleep trying to focus the headlamp!

As a bloke, there's no need to get out of the RTT. As Pop058 pointed out its no real drama to use a bottle since we were built with external plumbing.
The idea of the SheWee is that there's no need to be completely daks-down. It can apparently be used standing up with just a bit of garment loosening...

Sorry Bas - but rules are rules (and it explains the standing up bit that weeds doesn't get) :)

Thanks. That's a good practical idea for the rooftop tent.

My wife packs it on any trip the porta loo doesn't get taken on.
The thing that "sold" her was the fact you don't need to venture outside.
As suggested by Any's post it can be used in a RTT.
We where told by 3 ladies they use them while knelling in their RTT.

Tips :
1. Make sure she's back in the car before you drive off. :burnrubber: :Rolling::Rolling:
2. Turn the reversing camera "OFF". :o
But don't let her start looking around the shops for alternatives. She might buy you one of these ............

Could be a bit messy if you've had a few too many sherbets and forget to empty the thing. :toilet:

FUD: standard government issue to women wintering at Aussie Antarctic bases.
True.
When I was in training to winter at Casey one of the other winterers in training, a woman of course, joked after receiving her clothing kit asking "wanna see my standard issue false dong? It's long, thick and black!"
And it was.
